Solved What Size SSD for Just Windows 7?

With OCZ, there are different ones floating around out there (Petrol? Agility?).

Does anybody have any particular preference for any reason?

If any OCZ, I would go for a Vertex.

I have an Agility 3, only because it was cheaper at the time than the Vertex 3s. However, I see the Vertex line are lowered in price. Many people suggest to stay away from OCZ SSDs, but my Agility 3 240 GB drive works without any issues.

Certain OCZ models had controller issues if I recall.

And I have not heard good things about OCZ support if you happen to have a problem.

Games can be put on a standard HDD.

True, but games also have some of the longest load times of any application that you run..so they can benefit greatly being on an SSD.

Sandforce controller issues originally. My coworker has an OCZ, and his drive just went belly up this past weekend. I personally have 2 Intel's and they have been solid. I would also suggest the Samsung 830 series as well.

I chose Intel for one reason, reliability. Any thing I bought from Intel worked as it should and still does.

What about OCZ? On Overclockers.co.uk (where I go, literally just down the road from me) the OCZ have high ratings and respect.

It was an awesome company manufacturing the highest combination of performance-quality memory modules. With SSD's? Their still fresh on market though it's still the same company.

You can't always decide on the quality just by the name. For example, the other forum I post on, [H]ardForums, are part of [H]ardOCP. They have a dedicated OC community, but their forums cover all topics, and are generally amoung the most respected on the web, when it comes to performance computing. Their logos appear on many mobo retail boxes because of their reviews.

Btw, if you really needed to, windows ultimate 32bit fits on an 8gb SSD.

Yep, same name. I had a previous account with a high post count, but didn't have access to the e-mail address I used to set it up, and couldn't prove to the mods I was the same person, so I had to create a new account half-way through. I think it was in the summer of 2000 when I first joined, and I'd have well over 20k posts combined.

Reading the charts and graphs on the read and wright times on a SSD means very little in actual use. The fastest component one gets today that doesn't work tomorrow to me means very little. For a new user of a SSD I recommend running your system a default and watch the magic then decide whether you want to overclock.

I have had a 128 GB OCZ Vertex 3 for about two weeks. Not long enough to give any reliability statements, but it is a good one so far, I happen to find a one day special for $79. Their normal price is $99 I believe. You can find a good deal if you just do some searching.

Because my timing is never very good I got my Intel back in April 2011 when it wasn't on sale and it cost me $286.00. I don't seem to catch anything on sale.

^ Don't feel bad, I paid $289 for my 80GB Intel X25-M G2 when I got mine. I don't regret it at all.
