ok i've had this problem for awhile now and im not sure how to fix and it came from other problems heres what happend my pc was going a bit slow and i got a message telling my to restart to finish the install on a game i had bought awhile back (3-5 years ago) and i have installed it multipule times before. so i went and restarted it and i had a problem it was one i had before which was a min or so after the desktop started it would freeze and stop responding. at that point i came here looking for answers one i got was to uninstall my video driver and i did. i realized that it had not fixed the problem worse because i had a low resolution and i had tried to restart a few times. now the last time i tryed i was going to try something someone else had told me to do (i dont remember what it was but i wasnt able to even try it because the desktop would freeze too fast) and i restarted it and got the error message now i have no idea what to do. . .

Mate, you came to the right place.

Start windows in safe mode: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html

try to uninstall the game. also, type MSCONFIG into the start menu search bar, and click the program at the top. Click the option that says Diagnostic startup. :tip:Remember to go back and select Normal Startup when problem is solved

Restart, and do a full scan with your antivirus program. Make sure it is updated first. Also, please let me know which Antivirus program you are using.

You don't need a disk for a clean install, so long as you have a license. You can have an upgrade license, but be sure you have a previous OS license that you are no longer using (ie the one that you are upgrading from).

A clean install is easy, and I can tell you how, but I was trying to help you get into your current install.

Did you have a retail, OEM, or Upgrade license?

Well, if nothing works, and you are interested in a faster harddrive, instead of RAID 0, I would recommend a simple SSD. They are a bit more expensive, but the speed is tremendous. You can get a good one for less than 180USD. You might consider a 80 - 120 GB SSD, and put all files, such as documents, MP3s, videos, etc. onto a second standard harddrive. That way, the OS and any game, app, etc. that you need to go really fast will. If your motherboard supports 6 Gbit/s, you can get a 6 Gbit/s SSD which will make loading times take even less time.

RAID 0 sets up two similar harddrives for increased performance, but may cause problems if even one of them fails. And having two harddrives increases that chance that one of them will fail (2 have a higher chance than 1). If you want more info on RAID levels, read this: Standard RAID levels - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - this can let you know how you might set up RAID according to your needs. I would choose an SSD over a HDD RAID setup, as you will get the speed without complication.

Let me know and I'll make suggestions. Sorry that your harddrive is having so many problems. If you need to save data off it, please refer back to Gregrocker's tutorial at the end. That will tell you how it can be accomplished.

And give me more info about your computer (sorry if you already have). Either list the exact model, and/or list exactly what parts you personally contributed to it that may differ from a complete computer package (ie. model of computer).

This will help me determine what you can upgrade to, from BIOS to SSD to other software.

Not sure, but I think you can only support 3 Gbit/s, which would still be very fast with an SSD
^ this is what you have

You can get an SSD - Solid State Drive (vs a standard HDD - Hard Disk Drive). They are faster, smaller, cooler (temp), and last just as long. Read up on it: Solid-state drive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Did this HP come with Win7 presintalled? If so you don't need to buy another copy but can
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps in the blue link which includes everything you need.

Or did the HP come with Vista and you are using an Upgrade disk to reinstall Win7?

What exactly is the problem now when you try in boot the Win7 disk to reinstall? Please report back the verbatim error message and at what point it fails here: Clean Install Windows 7

Ninety per cent of the time the failure of disk to boot is user error. If not then you can boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD which will boot itself, to wipe the HD.

This will in turn force the installation disk to boot itself.

Let us know how it goes and we will help you get it reinstalled. We have a 100% success rate when the user is cooperative.

heres the problem when i goto the custom setting for the disk i select my hd and it says error code: 0x80070057. now my main problem is in the title the a disk error has ocurred thing thats why i cant get to my desktop now ive tried disc check, sfc scannow and a few other codes people recommended for people in my situation (title) and ive tryed every other way to fix it on the disk also i bought a online recovery disk that runs linux (piece of crap draws me to another dead end) 9$ wasted and ive also tried the normal install on the disk which tells me you need to be on your desktop to do this. ive sunk 130$ into trying to make this work and im a bit frusrated. . .
