A disk read error occured

I have dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. It starts up but ends up with the screen saying a disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+DEl to restart. Is there Anyway to fix this issue?

Make sure the hard drive is securely connected. Does the hard drive show up in the BIOS ? Did anything strange happen the last time you used it ? Any strange sounds ?
