I recently got a new computer and a new monitor. The problem is that the only monitor that is displaying is the default Generic PnP Monitor. The monitor came with a drivers CD, but I don't know where to install the drivers. In the readme file it says to find the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and install manually, but the only monitor that's displaying is the Generic PnP Monitor. I have absolutely no clue what to do at this point. Also, the monitor is supposedly 1600 x 900, but the resolution that looks the best on my desktop is 1600 x 1200 (4:3, even though my monitor is widescreen. All other resolutions look blurry). While playing games it is 1680 x 1050 that looks the best. I have updated my graphics drivers and everything (Nvidia Geforce GT 545).

Also, I don't know if this matters, but I am currently using a VGA to DVI adapter. I don't have a DVI cord and the monitor came with a VGA cord, and my computer only uses DVI or HDMI.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hello Vizaon and Welcome to "Windows Seven Forums".

You should just able to put in the CD that has the driver on it and the auto run should take over and all you should have to do is open the file and click install and run. The driver will be placed in the the right directory automatically.

Hello Vizaon and Welcome to "Windows Seven Forums".

You should just able to put in the CD that has the driver on it and the auto run should take over and all you should have to do is open the file and click install and run. The driver will be placed in the the right directory automatically.
But there's the problem. When I put the CD in all it does is open up an HTML page and it has links to a setup diagram and user's guide. Nowhere in these pages does it provide any drivers to download, I have to go and open the CD and view the files inside and there's a drivers folder. In there it tells me what to do, but like I said before the monitor isn't showing up (Generic PnP Monitor is only showing up). Also, the max res. is 1600 x 900, but yet that isn't a resolution I could choose. I went into my Nvidia settings and added a custom resolution. When I used that resolution it was blurry, even though my drivers are up to date.

Now, I don't know how but I changed my resolution to 1600 x 900 and it looks great now, but my monitor still isn't showing up. I'm not sure if it really matters that it's still using Generic PnP Monitor, but it looks absolutely fine now.

If you need to install your monitor drivers manually, you:

Open Device Manager.

Open Monitors.

Double click on the monitor.

Click on the Driver tab.

Click the Update Driver button.

Choose "Browse my computer for driver software".

Navigate to where the monitor drivers are on the CD. (It'll be a .inf file.)

Incidentally, which interface are you using between the graphics card and the monitor? At a guess, you're using the VGA (analog) one. The difference from using a DVI connection may not be much, but most of us prefer the digital interface. If the monitor didn't come with a DVI cable, buy one online unless you have a very good local source. Retail stores (like Best Buy) often ask outrageous prices for cables.
