I've manage to finally get my Disk transfer rate up 0.1 to 7.9 by upgrading my Vertex 3 to a Vertex 4.

Yup, he has quad channel RAM. I have dual channel but get the same WEI in RAM, so WEI doesn't mean a whole lot.

Yeah, quad channel is nice. I get around 34.5 at 1600MHz. It looks like he's running his at 2000MHz.

I also haven't OCed my 3930K yet. 4.2 should be easy enough to achieve a nice stable OC. I've heard of people even getting 5. It can pretty much handle everything I throw at it in stride now anyway though, so it isn't a priority.

I agree that the WEI isn't the definitive judge on computer capabilities, but it gives you a nice rough estimate to go by, and lets you know where you might want to make improvements.

I tried WEI on Win 8 and the upper level on there is 9.9 so to reach that must have some serious RAM beyond what I can afford.

My RAM is running at 1866, I can't do 2000 while I have my CPU o/c @ 4.2, well there probably is a way but it gets too complicated for my liking. Even with the 4.2 the WEI only jumps 0.1 on the CPU score, hardly worth it really

I cannot unsubscribe from this thread, tried the link at the bottom of the update email; it just takes me to a link where it errors. I also looked under my subs and it's not there?!

Fed up of the near constant update emails!!

Update: making this post has caused it to pop up under subs...yay!

I've manage to finally get my Disk transfer rate up 0.1 to 7.9 by upgrading my Vertex 3 to a Vertex 4.

83155539.jpg

This is odd, because I've had a 120GB Vertex 3 in my Toshiba laptop (i5-2410M SB CPU, 8GB RAM) for one year now, and I just re-ran my WEI scores, and I get a 7.9 every time. Here's my last result: (see .jpg)

Do you idle/log off from the drive at least one overnight per week? I've noticed it really seems to help.

My Vertex 3 was only 60Gb and it was over half full, it apparently makes a difference with the sandforce controller.

After reformatting yesterday my score has shot up from 7.2 to 7.7, something has happened to my Graphics card :)

Hi, Vipermk2 - yes, it's quite obvious by now that the lower the capacity of the SSD, the lower the performance. Apparently this is a limitation imposed by both the physics and the geometry of the chips and their layout.

I would suggest a more rigorous benchmark, PCMark 7 - (although it is heavily weighted to drive / controller subsystem performance):

Windows 7 speed test - Benchmark your windows 7 PC

Just as a reference, here's my laptop's last score (see .jpg)

Also, I agree very much with your sig...

"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh, haven't you? "

...but I'm not sure what you mean by "uninhabited". It's clear that you & I are here, along with about 7 billion other h. sapiens in this universe. That is, unless you're into solipsism, which is easily shot down. And yes, its meaninglessness almost imposes the laugh response. We weren't asked to be brought here, yet here we are. Simply because of 5 or 6 minutes of grunting on the part of our biological parents. And 9 months later, <POOF!>, we emerged, along with our respective takes on this universe. It's so bizarre. But "hahaha", nevertheless...

Y'all with SSDs should slow down on WEI assessments and benchmarks, both cause unneeded drive writes.

Y'all with SSDs should slow down on WEI assessments and benchmarks, both cause unneeded drive writes.

Hey Britton30 - you make a good point. I benchmark my Vertex 3 SSD maybe twice a month, if that.

If you'll note the .jpg of my laptop's WEI score, it's dated March of this year.

I don't always benchmark my SSD drive, but when I do, I use ATTO32 and AS SSD. Stay g33ky, my friends.

wicked fast little laptop for the money ($549 USD new, from MicroCenter. 16GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 was $153.99 USD off Amazon.com. Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD was $189.99 @ MicroCenter, Cambridge MA
Current WEI

Since installing one SSD 6.9WEI over the regular raid0 instal 5.9WEI, I added another SSD and raid0 them and now it's 7.3 WEI. Although this hardware is kinda old, still working very well with all I can through at it, sometimes so well I am quite surprised.
