SF Diagnostic Tool - Using for Troubleshooting

Using SF Diagnostic Tool v5 For Troubleshooting

   Information
The SF Diagnostic Tool and SF Debug Tool is used to collect diagnostic information from your computer required to analysis Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and other troubleshooting purposes for Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

You must be logged in as an administrator to be able to use either tool.

   Note
SF Diagnostic Tool created by Shyam (Capt.Jack Sparrow).

Changelog for 5.0.0.6
  • Fixed typo in button
  • Added DXDIAG log
  • Added System Info Log - Log will also contain product ID, I was told with product ID we could find if Windows is genuine or not.
  • Minor bug fixes
   Warning
Some antivirus or firewall programs may detect SF Diagnostic Tool as a Trojan. It's just a False positive because the publisher is unknown.

There is nothing to worry about as the SF Diagnostic Tool is 100% safe and will not harm your computer.

Here's How:

1. Click/tap on the Download button below to download SF Diagnostic Tool.
Download

2. Save the ZIP file to your desktop, open it, and extract (drag and drop) the SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe file to your desktop.

3. Right click on or press and hold the extracted SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe file, and click/tap on Run as administrator.

4. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

5. Click/tap on the Grab All button, and click/tap on OK for each notice dialog until it's finished.screenshot.png
Success.jpg
6. You will now have a folder saved on your Desktop with the name of SF_DD_MM_YYYY (SF_day_month_year) that includes the information from each button in the tool.

7. ZIP the SF_DD_MM_YYYY folder, then rename the ZIP folder to your user name here at Vista Forums, Seven Forums, or Eight Forums.

8. When you are finished, you can close the SF Diagnostic Tool.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
2, I have given the default location %userprofile%\Desktop as the default location. If it's not accessible then the tool will not work. If it's not getting created that means the default locations in the registry is messed up.

Brink,

Somehow this time I tried, the new version did not work for me, while the old one did. I have no idea what changed, I dod nothing different, but when the new version would not work again, I went back to the old one, and it worked somehow, and I now have all the needed files. Thank you so much for all your help! :) I can now go ahead and create my thread with my BSOD issue. :)

I'm glad that the new version Shyam wrote worked for you. My guess is that you may not have used "Run as administrator" with it the first time??

Still does not work ............. the confusion is relative to running as admin or not.
either way the target folder for the file is not USER\xxx\Desktop

IF I run it without admin it creates a folder on the user desktop as soon as I open the program. However, when I click a button it creates D:\DESKTOP and places the file in it. Nothing is ever places in the folder on the user desktop.

If I run as admin it will not create the folder on the user desktop when it opens. When I click a button it creates the D:\DESKTOP folder and places the file in it.

Hello Ruggb,

It sounds like it's running fine for you. :)

You're suppose to use "Run as administrator" on the tool for it to run properly. If you moved your user profile to D, then that is normal for it to place the folder on D:\Desktop when you click on a button to generate a report. Are you having any other issues?

Thanks mate .. But it's hard to troubleshoot such cases since maybe there were 3 or 4 reported cases in past 2 year compared to over 1000 or more usage. It's very specific to environment. But thanks again for the feedback. :)

it appears to be running "fine", other than it is not doing what u intended it to do RE where it is putting the folder.
I put this up b/c i thought it might help narrow the issue and explain some of the different observations. The point is that it does different things when run as admin or not.:huh:
Run NOT as admin it creates the folder where u say it should. A couple of items will run ok and create files there. Other items will error out. That is expected.
Run as admin it creates its own D:\Desktop folder and the target folder under that. Everything else runs ok as expected.

just trying to help

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I keep getting this error message and I did run in administrator mode

Could you just click on Event Log alone and see if generates the logs?

After I select Grab All, I receive make sure you right click on the program icon and run as administrator after I already have.

Then I receive a Microsoft .NET Framework error,
could not find a part of the path \\desktop\sf_05_09_2012

more details

Code:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Seems like your Desktop is shows as UNC path. I don't think this app has the ability yet to work on UNC path. :(

SF Diagnostic Tool - EventSys Question

Captain Jack Sparrow:
I used the SF Diagnostic Tool several times today, and the EventSys file only returns values through Jun 20, 2012. You can see the file in this thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/251155-computer-freezes-using-windows-7-ultimate-64-bit.html

Another person posting seems to have the same issue in this thread, with results only returned through June (See post #10):

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/251047-random-bsod-0x0f4-0x07a-memory-dump-failure-0xc0000010.html

Is the SF Diagnostic Tool working correctly for me or do I have another system issue? Thanks...
