Hi All

I am confused about how much I should keep the partition in my new laptop, the reason is, I feel that disk partition do affects the system speed, I do not know whether I am correct or not.

I have a 700 GB hard disk presently with Win-7 Installed, I do not know how to do the partition when windows is installed, during installation I was unable to do the partition because 'new' button was disable.

I hope there is some way to do the partition after installing win-7. Please help tell the way to do the partition, also tell how many partition is optimum with what size.

regards
Pankaj

There is nothing at all wrong with having a single 700 GB partition on a 700 GB drive.

Some people (me included) might choose to split that up into maybe 100 for C and 600 for some other purpose (typically data), but not for performance reasons. Instead it's done because it can simplify backups, imaging, and Windows reinstallation. But it's hardly a necessity and most people don't do it.

Golden has the right tool for the job if you decide to do it---Partition Wizard.

Thanks ignatzatsonic, please suggest some partition for my hard disk, I will generally use it for Games and some multimedia and designing software. If I use a single drive like 400 GB as a primary drive and install all software including windows in it, won't it slow down the processing speed ??

Hi,

Try the 100/600 combination ignatz suggested (you can always resize it later if you wish).

Partioning has no effect on processing speed whatsoever.

Golden

I also prefer the additional HD option myself as said it has no impact on disk performance. I normally run with 2 internal and one external for backups of both internal drives

To embarrassed to tell lol
Before you do any partition splitting, post a picture of your Disk Management. Chances are that you already have 4 primary partitions and you would get into a lot of trouble when you split a partition.

Hi, my hard disk is 750 GB, in the disk management I can see only two partitions presently, one is around 650 GB NTFS and another is 8GB-FAt32.

I guess 8Gb is some reserved space, and my win-7 is installed in another drive of 650GB.

So here I want to do partition of 650 GB hard disk.

As suggested by you, I will post the image to get feedback from you and to avoid risk.

thanks

If Disk Management shows only 2 partitions, you would have no problem. But that is unusual for an OEM installation. Usually there is at least another system partition and a recovery partition.
