Hi,
I've been searching for a solution all day long....now I try here..!
Today I tried to install Windows 7 64 bit RTM, aswell as 32 bit RTM on my desktop PC, with the same Problem. All Drivers were automatically installed by Win 7, BUT somehow the graphic driver for my XFX geforce 7900 GT is not working properly. Almost everytime a new window is opened the screen show's exactly the same as shown http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/rr53/Xcaliber009/S4010827.jpg
The strange thing is: When I disconnect the DVI Cable and plug it in again.....everythng is shown properly again, without a reboot!
I also tried a couple of drivers (such as 190.40 , 190.38 , 186.35..) no success
My Board is an Asus P5W-DH Delux.

PLEASE anybody help!!!
Thank's!

It looks like a timing issue. Try to create a custom resolution in the nvidia panel, put it to 60hz see what that does....

Thank's for your responses!
My Graphic Card has two DVI ports. I tried both ports, also with an DVI to VGA Adapter...no success.
I created a custom resolution, tried 75Hz, and 60 Hz......same problem!

edit: never mind. Overlooked the part of you saying you already tried drivers from Nvidia.

go to safe mode, open devices.msc, delete the graphics adaptor.
Reboot and see what the standard driver does then.

I got a Samsung Syncmaster 943br. But I tried a different Monitor (Acer).......no change!
When I delete the Graphic adapter, a VGA Driver get's installed and everything works fine, but I can't live with a VGA Driver!!!

i've got a gts 250 so does someone else here. With the same os and driver his doesn't work and mine does.

Try to backtrack to a vista driver and see what that does. the 182 seems quite stable.

I have the same problem using a geforce 7900 and windows XP. It usually happens shortly after I load a game or a screen within a game loads. I've re-installed the drivers and tried older drivers. The problem even persisted after I reformatted my hard drive.

I got exactly the same problem with asus mobo and xfx 7900gt.. The only solution for stability so far is to use 16bit color depth.. everything else failed although I didnt try other drivers than the latest Nvidia ones or the win7 original.

I also manage to recover temporarily by unplugging the monitor and connect it again. Im sure it has something to do with timings but I cant touch them cause the problem especially appears when you mess with the Nvidia settings.

Tried two monitors LG and NEC both LCD...

EDIT:
a) The problem becomes scarce when Sidebar (Gadgets) is disabled.
b) Always appears when closing ACDSee v3.

I reinstalled windows 7 and noticed that the refresh rate is set to 60Hz with MS drivers. Yesterday (with latest nvidia drivers installed) it wouldn't change to anything else than 59Hz. Im worried that if I install nvidia drivers the problem will get worse.

thank you ken I just thought that since the problem is exactly the same I should continue here and maybe someone else also discovers this thread.. I also wanted to add as much info as possible so maybe some guru would come up with an idea...

I really cant understand this problem.. unfortunately I dont have a spare gfx card to do more tests ...

Hey Tbone I was having the same problem with my xfx 7900gt, in vista utimate and windows 7 64 bit ultimate. The answer is in this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/18728-blue-screen-geforce-7900-gt-3.html

This is a program fix to change the timing on your card, you have to set it to start up automatically so that it is always on though.

No problem man, I was getting fustrated just as much as everyone else, So im thankful for this forum. I was having this same problem on my vista ultimate machine a couple of months ago, but the whole time I was thinking it was the drivers and not the card so all I did was uninstall the nvidia drivers and use the built-in vista drivers and that actually worked for me, but yesterday after I installed windows 7 and it happened on that machine I knew something was really wrong. But atleast this is a temporary fix until I get a new card.

this forum is the dog's.. ;)

you think it isnt a driver bug? since it can be fixed with software why cant they implement a fix in new drivers? or they just want to sell more cards? because Im definetely not buying a new one for this machine... then Ill have to buy a new cpu-mobo-ram to avoid the bottleneck. This machine is my home office PC and it doesnt need to have huge performance. Buying a new better card without upgrading the rest is like installing a shiny leather saloon in an old car.

Well the software fix isn't really that, its a program to actually over clocks your card temporary. Nvidia wont release a driver to do that because there are multiple cards out there they make that run at different clock speeds, the only thing that can be done as mentioned in the other forum post is to send your card back to your manufacturer and have them clock the hardware permanently. I would do that but Im out of warranty. also im not buying a super duper fast card to replace this one Im going to get one around $70 with similar speeds to this one.

ok final solution to the problem!

I flashed my card to the new settings and also made sure that the boot up clocks are the same as the clocks used when into windows.

I used Nibitor 5.2 and nvflash boot cd to permanently clock my card to 525/760 from 520/750 and uninstalled rivatuner. I did some tests to try and replicate the problem but it seems the problem is gone for good. My card is out of warranty so I didnt worry about that... I just dont like middle solutions unless I have to live with them... it seems that this time this was not the case ;)

I hope this helps more people in the future.

NOTE: I also changed the boot up clocks because I had the feeling that the problem also occurred when the driver tried to change to the windows clocks. So the card is using the same clocks all the time.
