Windows 7 7201 x64 Doesn't Boot

Hi

i have been using windows 7 x64 on a test pc for the last few months and its been working excellent. have not had any problems with it. I recently used paragon partition to free up some space and merge some partitions.

below explains what i had on on each partition:-

400GB HITACHI SATA HDD....

C:\ > partition (200GB)
E:\ > main windows 7 partition(160GB)

hidden partitions on same HDD...

F:\ > Recovery
X:\ > System Volume

In paragon i noticed partitions that did not show up on my computer. One was labelled recovery which i assumed was preinstalled vista thought the drive had 100% free space. ANd one was called system volume which i thought was from an old partition.

I FORMATTED both the recovery and system volume partitions and merged them. Once i restarted the computer windows 7 doesnt load all i get is a black screen. I don't even see the windows 7 starting logo.

it looks like the repartitioning has scrambled your bootloader.

try this fine tutorial on startup repair.

thanks for that i ran the startup repair and recived the following root cause:

The partition table does not have valid system partition.

it however did not fix the problem still a black screen when booting

ok, it seems that paragon really screwed up your partitions - are you able to boot into any of your partitions to see if your files are still there?

and windows 7 installation has taking over the X label and called it BOOT.

im trying to look for a recovery image or restore point but i cant see any. DO i need to find my sata driver in windows\system32\drivers... im not sure which driver it is.

i'm starting to get a bit out of my depth here, but i think your bootloader has been scrambled, or is on the wrong partition.

read this tutorial, which was written for vista, but the principle still applies.

System Volume partition (In your case it is X:\ as you have mentioned earlier) is a 100mb hidden(with no drive letter) partition which contains basic file that are needed to load windows. As you have formatted it that is why windows cannot boot. Try to perform startup recovery and your windows will boot fine...

To perform startup recovery follow the tutorial the one that mickey megabyte posted..

i have not got a vista installtion cd. I am going to try and install xp and then using software called vistabootpro loader try and fix the boot file to give me the option to select windows 7.
So in a way its a dual boot with xp and windows 7 on it. and once it works i can either get rid of xp or keep it in case something like this happens again.

will let you know how it goes, just installing windows XP at the moment.

you can use the windows 7 installation disk/drive that you used, you don't need the vista one...

Then i just browse and can see all the drives and files. BUt still cant see no windows recovery image or anything

to repeat, try this first! use your win 7 install disc - the same principles apply

you may have to go right down to the 'nuclear holocaust' section - it's a bit hairy, but at least you may get your os back without having to install xp first...

OK I needed that info..
Then that x:\ drive is a temp location in memory(RAM) that contains that contain temp setup files. Just insert your windows 7 DVD, select the language then click recovery option and then click the first option that comes on the page (that is startup repair option). And your windows will load without any problem..

after doing the holocaust repair and failing numeorus number of times i decided to do what you said and it worked.

I also now have windows 7 installed on 2 partitions X and E and want to get rid of the one on X same hard drive 2 partitions. Can i remove and format X or will the boot get corrupt again. Whats the safest way to remove the windows 7 on X and make sure the boot is saved on E and doesn't get corrupt or worse deleted. Btw X drive is primary...

removing 1 of 2 window 7 os's from 2 partitions

information on the drives taken from disk management:

X: HEALTHY (SYSTEM,ACTIVE,PRIMARY PARTITION)
E: HEALTHY (BOOT, PAGE FILE, CRASH DUMP, LOGICAL DRIVE)

i want to move E as my primary and the main system os. Then i want to remove X.

I tried paragon partition and changed E to primary partition again it asked to restart. Then it restarted to make the changes and as it was it asked Boot Sector Write! Virus: Continue:Y/N?

then it froze

so i had to repair windows again using the installation dvd. Any idea on how to remove X: :huh:. As also having a OS on the X drive is a not a good idea as windows uses this when installing.

You are not getting it. windows 7 is not installed on 2 partitions. the X:\ partition contains the basic boot files and E:\ contains the windows file.

If you delete or format any of this two drives the windows will crash again.
And you cannot change a logical partition without removing that partition which will also delete all your files inside it..
