Clean install of Windows 7

It will not stop us from helping you. But you don't have to make it so difficult.

We successfully help tens of thousands of users here so we know what works and doesn't.

I am trying to be Anything but difficult.
I simply said that by following the directions to Install the OS and doing the updates, it did not work for me.

Did you follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

Did you enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware which assures the printer and other hardware drivers are delivered and installed correctly?

There may be glitches that need to be worked out, e.g you may need to install or reinstall flashplayer in a browser, install all or part of the full printer software package from it's Support Downloads webpage if the Win7 driver isn't enough. Some programs may need troubleshooting to run correctly. We are here to help you with that instead of just junking the whole install.

I am not trying to junk the install ( which was transferred from a backup image on an HDD).
I was told that the partitions have to be divisible by a whole number and only one is. (pic in a reply to ignatzatsonic.
The install, though, seems perfect.

As I told ignatzatsonic. I am going to try again by installing it on a spare hdd and see if I can figure out why the first one failed.

I think maybe you ought to look at your arithmetic again. See my original post 4. By my division, both are divisible by 4.

I did originally---but rechecked my calculations.

Both are divisible by both 4 and 4096. Put them into Windows calculator yourself.

The 4 answers are 262144, 256, 26476544, and 25856---exactly, evenly.

Why did you want to Clean Reinstall in the first place? Very wise to make the backup image. But the issues you mentioned are fixable as I've seen them all handled here before.

Try this.

Nor have I ever heard anything about 4096, for that matter. But it still is divisible evenly by that number.

Why did you want to Clean Reinstall in the first place? Very wise to make the backup image. But the issues you mentioned are fixable as I've seen them all handled here before.

The only reason is I was told that a transfer from an image on the hdd to ssd is not good.
I think that was misinformation, as the partitions, which I was told would be misaligned, are not.
This install seems fine and I am going to keep it.

I just want to do a test on an hdd to see what I didn't do right on the ssd install.

When I was having the issues with the previous install on the ssd, I posted and couldn't get a resolution.

No prob- we all have those days.
My problem was trying to listen to too many opinions and driving myself crazy.

Just realized it's after one o'clock where you are.

I did a clean install and thought the necessary drivers would be on the Asus CD.

The install was terrible and I had a good install on an HDD.
I did a backup using Acronis Recovery and everything seems fine.

I was told that the Partition properties are wrong, due to going from HDD to SSD. Pic enclosed

Everything is fine, so I don't know if I should do another clean install.
The driver installation seems to be my problem on the clean install.

After using the Windows 7 CD and the Asus CD, I thought I was done. WRONG!!

Do I download the drivers from the Intel Site, and is that all I need?

I purchased the Asus P8Z68 motherboard last month which is very similiar to yours. I installed Windows 7 from the DVD, used the Asus DVD and was good to go. I did not have to go to any sites to get drivers. The Asus DVD and Win 7 DVD had all of them or else they came in Win updates. -- Tell me what sections of the Asus DVD you installed. == Why do you think your install is bad?

I did the install of OS, and then used the Asus dvd and when I called Asus,I was told to select ALL. Which I did ( except for Norton)

When I tried to access my radio stations , no audio stream.
When I tried to install my printers, message said - "cannot locate device."

There were other problems in loading websites as well.

What I am going to do as a test is try another install on a spare hdd and see if I can figure out what I did wrong.

I was finally able to conquer the "Install from Hell ."
I ran the Windows 7 disc and went to Device Mgr and clicked update drivers with the Asus disc in the drive.
I selected "search my computer" and all drivers were installed.

I then went to Windows Updates and installed all.
I couldn't believe I had to keep checking back every ten minutes and MORE updates were listed.

I thought they would do them automatically.

Anyway, after all updates were installed, everything is great.
My fear of a Clean Install is something of the past.

BTW - the updates also installed my printer drivers, which surprised me, since I didn't have to use the printer cds.

May I ask why you ran the drivers disk from Asus even before installing all Important and Optional Windows Updates?

Did you read Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7? I even reminded you twice to pay special attention how drivers are handled in Win7, but you persist in pretending like it's XP.
