How to transfer OEM Recovery Partition to a new hard drive?

jackgan

New member
I run the system recovery with the build in recovery partition from Sony but the installation cannot be completed due to the hard disk failure. I want to replace with a new hard drive but also want to keep the original recovery partition because there is some useful software that is included. I have a external adapter to connect my hard drive through USB to my computer and have a software to recover the data in the recovery partition. Is anyone know what to do?

jackgan,
Welcome to SevenForums.

Did you make the Sony recovery DVDs? Yes/No

Also need you to help us to help you by carrying out the following:

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Ø Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
Ø ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

With Speccy, you can select with your mouse/touchpad info from the display
and paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

=====================================

I'll await the system specs.

As I mention earlier, my hard drive is corrupted and having problem to boot into windows. I am actually looking for a way to transfer or create a new OEM recovery partition to a new hard drive. I just wonder if there is a way to do it.

jack,
Where do you think that recovery partition is?

That recovery partition is on your hard disk.

If the partition is defective, then a copy will be defective.

Since you say that you can not run CHKDSK, then
you need to run SeaGate Tools For Dos from a CD disc.
You boot up the CD disc. You run the extended test.

Seagate for DOS tutorial

Seagate Sea Tools Disk Diagnostic Tool

Seagate SeaTools for DOS download

I actually run hard drive test with R-Studio. And what defective (means bad sector was found) is the C drive and D drive but the recovery partition have no bad sector detected so I assume the recovery partition still work fine. What I think is that the installation is not completed due to the drive C that install to.

I do not have any CD-W with me now. May I know what is the purpose to run the test of the disk? Also, is it possible to run any test you asking for by connect the hard drive to another laptop through an SATA-to-USB adapter and run the test from the connected laptop?
