Well yesterday I decided to install Windows 7, after some encouragement from a friend, and after looking at a bunch of youtube videos and website about windows 7. I did not want to install it on the main computer so I decided to do it on this old IBM Thinkpad T40, 1.5GB Ram, 1.5GHz Processor, 32 MB video card, and many more not so good specs. So I installed Windows 7, and the installation process went smoothly. All of the drivers except for sound(which I already had on my flash drive) installed automatically. I love the new look and the new superbar and its faster than my xp was.

However there was one problem. Unfortunately this laptop does not have an internal wireless card. So it uses a U.S Robotics wireless PC card to access the internet. I installed about 5 different programs, ran them all in compatibility mode, however the utility says that it cannot find the card. I was not able to find the correct driver in order to read the card.

It is a U.S Robotics 100Mbps 802.11g Wireless Turbo PC Card USR5410.

Did you install the driver for the USB? If not it can be found here U.S.Robotics USR5410 Driver Download if you have installed it could you go to fevice manager (type device manager in search) and look at your network adapters to see if it is there and working properly.

Hope this helps

I already installed it, I tried it again and overwrote the file (I already had it). This window opens that says "Please wait while the driver is loading". No matter how long I wait, it stays like that forever.

The Network is using a WPA-PSK password, it allows both 802.11g and b. The speed is 768kbps, speedtest.net told me 528! And IDK what other settings you need for the network. If you mean network and sharing well I have device, music, picture, and document sharing turned on and there are 2 other comps on the network.

Its a very crappy connection, my parents decided that I do not need better internet

Edit: And there are my system specs

Could take a peek at the USR in device manager (type device manager in search) and see if it is installed and "working properly". Also see if there are any unknown devices (ones with a yellow triangle on them). Could you upload a pic of the dev mgr? To do that you use snipping tool (type snipping tool in search) and upload it using the attachment icon (paperclip icon).

Let me know if you need anything else

As I said earlier the only not working device was the wireless card. When I unplug it it shows everything installed correctly. And its not a usb, its in the cardbus slot (I think that is what it is called).

Ok so I downloaded the correct driver. After a bunch of Googling and adding windows 7 after every search. I downloaded and installed the driver. Now the wireless card is detected with the correct driver installed. So I go in the side and go to the network utility. It detects my Wireless Connection (ZaksNetwork), however will not prompt me to type in the wpa-psk password. For some reason it will only let me type in a wep password.

It worked with win xp, because I used a program called Boingo. Boingo somehow allowed me to use WPA-PSK passwords.

Hey! My personal laptop is an old t40! i love that thing its a freaking tank!

Idk about your problem, but unless theres a reason not to, i'd just reinstall windows 7 and install nothing else other than drivers until it works. does the wifi card even support WPA ? if not maybe try that boingo software in xp compatiblity mode after you install the drivers ?

I only installed windows yesterday. I don't think anything would conflict with the installation

It says that the driver is not digitally signed and that doesn't let it work!

ZakBain,

Would you, please, reveal what driver for USR 5410 has worked for you under Win7? I have the very same wireless pccard which gives me hard time under xp and I heard USR 5410 is not even supported in Vista, not to mention Win7. So any workaround would be appreciated. Thanks

MorphyLive/Simone helped me with my problem. He gave me the driver, so I hosted it on MediaFire: USR5410 Vista e 7 modedd.rar

In order for it to work, you must uninstall and delete any existing driver software, then manually point to the folder where you put the driver.

It should work with WPA, and WPA2

I went looking for a solution for my USR5410 PCI and ended up here ;)

I downloaded the file on mediafire after a clean Win7 install. No other drivers were tried before this and the device was simply listed as an unkown network device in device manager.
The driver installed perfectly, but I am unable to connect to my router (D-Link Dl-624) with anything other than an unprotected connection.

WEP gets recognized as WEP by Windows, but I am unable to connect. It just attempts the connection and fails... (I ofcourse chose to setup my wifi connection manually, entered the correct SSID and key)
When I set the router to WPA-PSK (no WPA2 unfortunately) and Windows to WPA-Personal, I can't even choose to connect.... :(

Is there anything I'm missing here??

Appreciate any help you can give.

You have to manually point to the driver.

When you press update driver, press Browse my computer for driver software. Then press the browse button and point to the folder where you downloaded Vista e7 modded. Press next and then it will say something to the extent of driver author could not be recognized or something, just press install anyway.

Good luck!

And make sure you uninstall/delete any previous drivers.
