Error 800B0100 when trying to install update KB2677070

Hey all,

This is my first post in here, but I am a common visitor :). I wasn't able to find a thread that helped me solve this issue, so I finally broke down and made an account.

I am trying to install updates on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machine. I just built this and installed windows 7 on it with SP1. I have a few downloads that are failing to install, and the people I built it for are complaining of random freezes and shutdowns. I figure this might be the issue. Here are the things that I have already tried:

1. Uninstalling avg anti-virus.
2. Downloading manually (says that the current genuine windows advantage tool is out of date, so I can't use it....)
3. Running a few different update hotfixes and scanners from microsoft.

I am out of ideas here. This next part will be long, but it is the update error logs in the CheckSUR.persit

There are a very limited number of people who understand CheckSUR well enough to be able to craft a fix for you - please be patient, and one will appear sooner or later. :)
I could try - but my knowledge is limited. I'll see if I can get someone else to have a look.

Hello lstott and welcome to the forums :party:

Noel has asked me to take a look at your CheckSUR log :)

Please download the attached file, Packs.zip, and extract this to your Desktop. You should find two folders, Manifests and Packages. Inside the Packages folder, you will find several files, copy and paste all of these into the following folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Then run the SURT again, and copy and paste the CheckSUR.persist.log as before please

Looks good to me, we've managed to fix every problem that the SURT has found :) How is the computer performing now? Still reluctant to update? You will probably get a new error code now: 0x8024200D. If this is the case, install the update from this location:

Well, you are right Tom. I did get that error. I tried to manually install the update, but I received an error when trying to run the windows validation tool. I have attached a screenshot.....anyone ever seen this before?

MS have recently changed the way they deliver updates online to help counter piracy. Before you are allowed to download the updates, you have to pass a validation check. You know, I would love to know why that error comes up as it isn't the case at all, it's very odd. I do know, however, that you are using a third party browser to download your updates and the MS site doesn't play nicely with that. Try using Internet Explorer to do it, instead of asking you to download a file, it will ask you to install an activex control :)

The GenuineCheck only works on XP.
