Solved virus attack: turned windows security center off. cannot turn on

would someone please tell me how to get online?

I did not save anything from my old system.

and should I download microsoft security essentials for my antivirus program?

Security Essentials is an excellent choice, yes.

To get online, plug in your ethernet cable - Windows should pick it up, and then offer downlaods (it might also downlaod an appropriate wireless card driver for you if you have that).

I am online with an ethernet cable. (solution to windows 7 installation was to delete the 3 partitions from my HDD, and let windows format it).


windows update is currently running.
I downloaded MSE.

am trying to get wireless working. would you please help me? I'm kind of stuck on this one?

thank you so much for all the help. sony told me that I would have to buy recovery disks from them to get my wireless internet working again.

I took my computer to my tech. it was a valiant effort. I learned a bunch of stuff.

better luck next time.

the SOB that created that trojan virus perhaps is happy. I am the poorer for it. I lost my whole weekend and now I will pay money anyway.

Hi,

You gave up to quickly - you do not need to purchase recovery disks to find the driver for your wireless adaptor. All you needed was a bit of patience to locate the driver on the manufacturer site. Did you read the tutorial at all?

You were only 1 step away from having the perfect install without having to fork out a single cent

I downloaded all the drivers from the manufacturers site. including the wireless adapter driver.

I have using the web of trust. but, it seems like so many websites that I want to go to have no rating.
they have the little blue question mark.
so I started going to these sites anyway in my quenchless search for knowledge about everything.

1. Make sure you install all the security updates for Windows, Internet explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch for it to that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC, so keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC
Go here to check for & install updates to Microsoft applications
Note: The update process uses activex, so you will need to use internet explorer for it, and allow the activex control that it wants to install

2. Along with MSE... Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

3. Keep your non-Microsoft applications updated as well
Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update, you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month

4. Download and run an additional (non-antivirus) antimalware solution, such as free MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware or SUPERAntiSpyware

problem solved.

wireless card was bad.

also had to go through sequence of steps sony gave me, regarding Caution message: the installed battery may not be properly connected (blah blah blah).

the solution to that was something like click start accessories run msconfig and then uncheck a box for (isb utilities?), not sure and restart.

easy once you've done it. lol. also had to download a few more drivers.
