Core 2 duo,it's faster then Pentium D. Pentium D is more outdated hardware.

Pentium D is what you call a budget processor and is only capable of basic stuff, emailing, surfing, facebook games at a push, i'd go for the core 2 duo, but if you really want some decent performance, i'd probably go for the core 2 quad, that's if you can still get hold of them

what motherboard do you have?
If you post the exact model of it i can help you to choose a good processor for you.

Be careful because processors could be not compatible with your botherboard due to steppings and revisions. For example, i have an ASUS P5LP-Le motherboard which supports Socket LGA 775 Core 2 Duo e6x00 CPUs, but for example it supports only e6700 rev A intead of both rev A and B.

Pentium Dual Core are very weak dual core processors, so i suggest you to go for a Core 2 Duo processor (which is a good dual core processor): a Core 2 Duo @1.5 GHz is 50% faster than a Pentium D @3.0 GHz. But don't expect extreme performance in games with it. For gaming it is a decent CPU, but not really fast to run games smoohtly... A Core 2 Quad will work really better.

True telling us what motherboard goes a long way in determining what processor you want to get... unless you're considering the processor first, than motherboard.

At any rate given the information posted, yeah, the Core 2 Duo is the better way to go. It's the faster, better chip.

A core2quad is a processor but has 4 cores instead of 2. The pricing I can't really say though for were you live but it's more expensive.

You may not be able to use a Core 2 Duo.

That depends on the motherboard you have.

You have not told us about our motherboard. If it will not accept a Core 2 Duo, you would have to buy a new motherboard as well as a new processor.

And we don't know anything about your source for the parts so we can't really comment on prices.

The Core 2 Duo is better than a Pentium D for any purpose.

But, to repeat, we don't know if your motherboard will accept a Core 2 Duo processor.

Core 2 Duos were introduced 6 years ago. There are better processors available now.

What you should buy depends on your budget and your motherboard.

If you are willing to replace the motherboard, you can then choose from a wide variety of processors.

It's hard to help for 2 reasons:

1: We don't know the prices for those parts in your country.

2: We don't know anything about your motherboard or whether you can use a Core 2 Duo 2.4 with that motherboard.
