My son is joining the Navy in a couple of months.

He has Outlook 2007 installed on his laptop which is his primary means of email access. When he travels, he will not be able to take his laptop with him but will need to access his emails from various overseas locations.

His current service provider offers a very poor interface (low functionality) to Webmail and so we are looking at other options but wanting to keep his existing email address.

The solution I am looking at is for him to join a web based email service eg. Outlook.com and set a rule in Outlook on his laptop to forward copy of all emails to the Outlook.com address.

Am I overlooking anything or is there anything else We need to consider? Keen to hear what others have done in such cases.

Thanks for your input.

For that approach to work you (or someone) would need to login with his Outlook account on his laptop so the emails get forwarded.
Is that what you are planning to do?

Can you setup forwarding on the ISP Webmail page?
That way the emails would be forwarded as soon as they are delivered to the ISP server.

Whoops, you're right of course :o I hadn't thought of that.
I will check out whether email forwarding at the ISP end is an option.

Thanks very much.

I gave up trying to find out whether Email forwarding from my ISP was available or not, and didn't want to sit on the phone for half an hour waiting to speak with someone.

I looked at what I am wanting to do from another angle and have found a solution.

Using Outlook.com there is an option to send/receive email from another account - including pop3

Very simple to setup and will do the job nicely.

Send and receive email from other accounts in Outlook.com - Microsoft Windows

Thanks DavidW7ncus for pointing out the flaw in my original thinking!

Hi there
Why not use a GMAIL account -- this integrates EXCELLENTLY with Outlook and can forward mail automatically as well.

I don't like most webmail type of interfaces -- so this integration with Outlook works excellently.

Cheers Jimbo! will check that option out as well.
Will probably go down the Outlook.com path however as I have already dabbled a bit with it when playing with Win 8.

Won't that approach still mean someone needs to boot-up the Son's laptop with his userid and run Outlook (local client program)?

Maybe I'm confused here on Outlook as a local client vs. Outlook.com?
