As regards drinking from a damp glass, how can you drink from a dry one? A drink, of whatever you fancy, is by definition wet. Ergo, if you pour said concoction in to a glass and proceed to drink it, the said glass is no longer dry since it contains (or contained) a liquid, a property of which is being wet.

If you pour neat alcohol into a dry glass, the capillary attraction of alcohol to alcohol is greater than the attraction of alcohol to glass therefore the glass stays dry! Pour it into a wet glass and you catch a cold!

This cutting-out-the-middle-man approach has some distinct advantages. Firstly, you don't need a glass (or need to remember where you last put it). Secondly, you don't have to worry about dropping and breaking the said glass. Thirdly (and perhaps the most beneficial advantage of all), you won't need to wash it. Now, where did I put that corkscrew?

I remember having half-pint (or was it third-pint) bottles of milk at Infants school (over 40yrs ago), and we drank them through paper straws. Quite how we managed to finish the bottles I'll never know, since the straws inevitably ended up as a mushy mess.
