How to read data from a faulty HDD

I'm late to this party, but I'd like to ask a stupid question.

Why can't you put the suspect hd into an external enclosure - then plug it in after you reach the desktop? Don't try to boot with both connected.

I don't think he has an external enclosure or a "sata to usb adapter"

it happens because the new HDD needs to be checked for bad sectors. try to plug in the data cable when you are in the windows environment. then go to the manage section and update the field.
when it recognized the new HDD, try to check it for bad sectors.

unfortunately I don't have a external HDD rack nor a usb-sata cable...
Will connecting the bad drive to the system, while working, be a stupid idea? will windows recognize the bad drive as a new connected one, ore will i get a BSOD??

ok i will, check for bad sectors, I currently have HD sentinel pro installed, so i can do that as soon as i get windows running with the bad drive

That's very dangerous!! It can fry your mainboard... all components have power

That's what i though, but i just asked before doing anything...

i tried ones. you should first plug its electrical cable while your pc is off, and the data cable dis attached.
then in the win environment attach the data cable and do what i said before

the problem was when i attached 2 HDD and 2 optical drive. then it couldn't boot to the os.

After i download the 46 mb file, what do i do with it? burn to CD, run as administrator??? Help, i don't know how ?
What mmkarimi is suggesting might work, but with the power connector in the HDD and after booting i add the data cable- as he said... What do YOU think?

I do have 2 optical drives, but i am 100% sure that it isn't the PSU because i had 3 HDDs, 4 case fans, and 2 optical drives running @ the same time. Now, i'm trying to boot up with 2 HDDs 3 case fans and 2 optic devices and it's failing...

You did download pwhe7.iso? right click on it and then "open with"->windows burning" or something like that. On standard systems double clicking opens a burning dialog as well.

Can you burn it to CD or DVD? And boot form it?

you know i had such problem with my laptop HDD ones before, i did that and it worked. actually the HDD was totally down. i tried this trick several times to get my data back. i think it may work for you too in this situation

I found a usb to sata adapter on the internet in my country. It's a biding site, and yes it is second hand, but who cares??? it has 24 months warranty.

It's downloading now. after i will burn it to a CD and boot.

I will try it as soon as the file downloads - I have a 2mb/s internet speed connection

I downloaded it and burned it to as CD-R @ 4x speed (706kb/s- it's the minimum on my laptop). How i'm going on my pc yo see if it works.

Finally! after half an hour, the power is back

I booted in to the File (don't know how it's called) i burned to the CD, and it says that my bad disk has 149 gb of unlocated space. It doesn't show any files on the drive, so that means only one thing: the data is gone forever

Now after I lost the data, is it possible to somehow save the drive, and use it further on as i would if it were normal???
