I already tried sfc scannow, it came up with corrupt files, but nothing that fixed the problem. The account was made into a standard account before trying to set up parental controls. Still need help :(

Cool - earlier you mentioned that "I already tried sfc scannow, it came up with corrupt files..." and now the sfc scans are coming up clean. :-)

I understand that you are working with a fresh install of W7, but have you tried creating a fresh user profile? ...one that starts off as a standard user. See if you can apply parental controls that that fresh test account.

Yes it did come up with corrupt files but I found out what it was about. And to elaborate, it was my tweak in the windows media library where I have changed the windows shutdown sound from default to my own preference. So sfc was a false alarm. It did NOT fix my problem. I already tried applying parental controls to a fresh account, but the issue persists. :/

Hello Matlet,

Before we continue, could you please clarify what you're trying to achieve? From what I understand, you're trying to set parental controls from a standard user account which isn't possible, but I may have misunderstood you.

Greetings, you misunderstood I'm afraid. I am trying to set parental controls from an administrator account to a standard user account, but it fails to apply.

Hello Matlet,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Could you run this in command prompt please:

net users {username}

Where {username} is the username of the account you are trying to enforce parental controls on, e.g. net users Tom.

Then copy the output into your next post please.

Tom

Strangely enough, I was unable to find command prompt on the administrator account that I want to set parental controls from to another account. I am not a newbie with computers, and trust me when I say, I was unable to locate cmd. Help, what's going on?

Hello Matlet,

The files are definitely there! :) They're not hidden or anything either, so I don't know why you couldn't find them.

Hold the Windows Key and press R to bring up the run dialog box, in this box, paste: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe

This should bring up command prompt, from here you can carry out the instructions I posted a few posts back.

I can indeed find them, and I am able to set parental controls to the standard account from the admin. So it all seems okay now. Thanks for the help and like I said in my deleted message, I'll get back to you if the issue persists :) Many thanks!
