The answer depends on usage. The answer will change under certain conditions. Select the one that meets your maximum requirements.

Big question is what do have for a power supply?

The 4890 is pretty much top of the line, unless you count the dual-GPU GTX 295's, so the 4890 would blow a GTX 260 out of the water in most (if not all) respects.

Well, I dont really know THAT much about graphics cards but if your going for the money than a ATI card is best or the 9800 gt which is cheap now but really good.

...but then look at the rest of the specs.

It's a great card, but with the rest of the specs I wouldn't expect miracles tbh :(

If you want to play crysis you would need to upgrade that cpu first, thats my suggestion - you can get decent dual core cpu's like the e5200 that overclock very well quite cheap.

I have a 4890 and i love it, runs everything i want at high details and overclocks decently.

Edit: hopefully your motherboard is lga775 and you can upgrade to a c2d or pentium dual core with a bios update, pentium dual core with 800mhz fsb is more likely with that old of a cpu. (something like e21xx, e2200 which overclock to 3ghz with decent cooling)

Post your motherboard model # and i'll check it out for you :)

Double Edit: If you have a Compaq SR2011WM like in your sig then it has the ecs rc410-m motherboard which only supports up to pentium D dual core cpus so you would need a new m/b as well - though you could reuse the ram it would probably be very slow ram and need replacing eventually as well.

your RAM & CPU will need upgrading once you buy any of the listed cards above....

the faster card will create a performance bottleneck with the rest of your components..

for 1920x1200 the 4890 sings at that res, but your gonna need a new CPU to properly open up that card...;)

alright my specs are updated and i think i did a good job, i think with everything im getting after the graphics card it should be under 800 bucks :D

i figured with me only getting 30-45 fps in css prob due to my slow cpu and 533 ram and crappy graphics card, and windows 7 coming out soon i might as well do a full upgrade

the cpu and mobo comes together and case and psu comes together as well saving me some money. all parts are going to be coming from newegg and if anyone know of better parts for the money please let me know. thanks

Stick with the 4890 if it still falls within your budget.

ATI are releasing their next generation of 58XX cards in about a month or so, so the 48XX series should become a little cheaper if you can afford to wait a little longer.
