Unable to get email or get on internet

My laptop uses Windows 7 Professional, it is my work computer. It connects through a proxy server while at work. Would this effect my ability to connect to my home network? I am connected to the router, but I can't get to the internet.

If you or someone else, manually configured the IPv4 properties for the work proxy connection "static IP" then you may need to go into the IPv4 properties of your "wireless I assume" connection and set it back to using DHCP.

You can also set the connection back to using DHCP by running the following command.

To switch the specified adapter from a static address to DHCP, type the following command:
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp

NOTE: Typing this command changes the interface named "Local Area Connection" to DHCP.

If the "work computer" was set up by your Company's IT department, then you may have to ask them if you're allowed to change the configuration.

The local area connection is using wireless I assume. I would first take a look at the IPv4 properties and see if they have some special static IP for the work connection.

If there is a static IP set up, you can save that info by typing it into the advanced TCP/IP window so you easily connect between both locations.

I assumed this is your personal PC so changing those static settings would be up to you in that case. If you aren't worried about that you can simply run the command I posted to change this connection back to using DHCP.

As Jacee pointed out, if it's a company machine you should contact the Admin before changing anything, of course if they sent you home with that machine they should have realized that it won't connect at home if you are using a static IP.
