Dell Studio 1458 Motherboard

Hi Quadrider10,

You may upgrade the system with use of an 'ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 GPU'.

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; glad to assist.

ordered! thank you very much for the help! very much appreciated!

Impressive stubbornness. I think that Stormy's advice will prove to be sound.

I hope that the disappointment isn't too severe.

the guy gave me the model number on the chip. it matched up to the Readon 5470 1gb.

my specs are 500/700mhz 512mb the 5470 is 750/800mhz 1gb, im also olanning on overclocking it for games. if its not that chip, then its the 5450 which is 650/800mhz 1gb (what my overclocked chip can hit without crashing.) again planning on overclocking for games. the other option which this card defientily is not is the 4530 chip. which is the same specs as mine, but the only difference is that its 1 gb. if it was that card, then it wouldent be worth it and i wouldent have bought it. besides i upgraded everything i could in my laptop, and the GPU was the only thing left.

Hi Quadrider10, Along with everyone else who has taken the time to respond to your post , I think you are going to be wildly dissappointed with the minor increase in speed at the cost of increased heat issues which in turn will lead to BSODs, It would have been more cost effective to have bought a game dedicated laptop :(

also i have 2 other questions....

1) everytime i boot up my laptop, the GPU is always at max frequency... i have to go into my overclocking tool and hit reset defaults for it to go back to normal. ive tried to uninstall both the driver and CCC and the overclocking tool, but no luck. also tried to change the performance/power saving options, and still no luck. what could be causing this?

2) also, i noticed that my SSD is always writing data... even when my computer is idle on the desktop with no open programs running. its always writing like a couple KB's and the usage is between 0-1%. i have indexing, prefetch, and superfetch, all turned off. when i had my HDD, when it was idle on the desktop, the usage was 0, reads were 0, and writing was 0. Maybe this is because of TRIM?
