I've recently reinstalled my system and I set my systems' Windows Update to download/install only the Important updates, not the recommended or optional ones. I think those are still sitting in the optional updates menu, but I really can't tell for sure.. I just know there are 53 of them.

Anyway the system seems to be running well, other than I am unable to right-click on items from within the start menu, and I can't figure out why.

It is possible that during your re-install the "Enable Context Menus and Dragging and Dropping in the Start Menu" has been turned off.

To check, see Option One here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...t-menus-dragging-dropping-disable-enable.html

You can also find it if you need to refer to the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/265-start-menu-customize.html link mentioned in Option One, Step one, of the tutorial.

If I may ask, why did you restrict your Update settings? Recommended and optional can be just as important as the "Important" ones.

This worked, thanks so much. I'm still confused as to why it was auto-enabled in past reinstalls, I've never had to check that button before. Anyway, I'm glad its fixed now.

Your welcome, and thank you for posting back to let us know.

As for why, I can only paraphrase an old saying; Computers work in mysterious ways or it could involve your restriction of only applying certain updates.

One of those un-applied updates may have affected the setting.

Without knowing your level of experience except for admitting that you have preformed previous re-installs which is an accomplishment in itself  a 97% enjoyment rate is nothing to scoff at.

You will find that as time passes you will enter a comfort zone in your relationship with these machines and it will become second nature to you as to what you can do with them, and how far you can push them.

One of, if not the most important thing you can do before trying anything new on your machine is to search, read, and comprehend as much information on what you are trying to do with them, and if you are still unsure ask someone you trust, there are no dumb questions.

I must go now, but it has been my pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Steve
