"Access Is Denied" When trying to add wireless network

The thing is I don't know what the cause is, that's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm just guessing it's file/folder permissions seeing as the AVG access denied problem was resolved by changing file/folder permissions.

In any case, thank you for all your effort to help, and if this does not work then I am once again out of ideas and I suppose I would try just about anything else...

Checking permissions is a waste of time.
If you have no permission you will never connect.
If you do have permission it connects.
It's that simple.

This problem is a network problem.

You could check if some vital network sevices are set to manual instead of automatic.

You can find services under administrative tools in the control panel.

When you have succesfuly connected, go and see which network related services are started, but are on manual.

Set those to automatic.

Restart and see what happens.

Good luck

omg you were right, believe it or not, there is a SERVICE called "Network List Service" and it does exactly what is related to my problem, stores connected to networks =O

It was set to manual, and so I stopped it and set to automatic.

However, when trying to start it again after, I get ERROR 5: ACCESS DENIED, what the heck.

So I went into the user account that it is started under, and it's started under a user called Local Service. I changed that to the box saying local system account..

now when trying to start it, i get an error 1079 the account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process =O

I know homegroup processor is one, but what are the other services relying on it and what services rely on homegroup processor etc ?

Don't try to start it.

When set to automatic, just reboot, it will start automatically.

Oh, and set that box back to local service, or it won't start.

don't start changing random permissions without knowing what you're doing.

you'll get into a mess without anybody being able to help you.

To summarize, you can connect to the network wirelessly but cannot save the information.

The details of the networks are stored in the registry at this location ....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList

You may want to check that the administrators group has permissions for this branch

Strangely enough you may want to try setting you UAC to a higher level temporarily so that the auto elevation prompts when editing (saving), the information.

another tip for good trouble shooting.

change one thing at a time and reboot.

It takes longer, but at least you will know when you found the right one.

And again, don't change system permissions. It will screw up your OS.

I think you have done it, I checked this registry key, and under it there is another registry key called Permissions and in this key, there is no data except default, which I suppose means no users have permissions to modify this data!

If you could tell me how to go about adding the administrators group to this permissions key I would be very grateful.

Yeah, I changed the user account it starts as back to Local Service, and I left it to start as Automatic, which means it should start when I restart, which I will probably do once I get an answer to my above question.

I would appreciate it if you try following advises, not only acknowledge them.

Please reboot. Your problem might already be solved with it.

You are making this more complicated than it has to be.

Sorry if I sound impatient, but it's hard enough trying to help without seeing what you're doing.

I dont think default is incorrect. My working sys also has default only. It may be in one of the other keys but you are just going to get yourself in wdeper if you start messing with them

If netprofm wasn't granted something, it's because it is not supposed to be granted it.

Randomly changing settings, especially in the registry or permissions without understanding the ramifications will get you further into trouble.

You will never know what new problem you have invoked by changing this.

Troubleshooting is eliminating options, not introducing new ones.

I hope the reboot will solve this problem.

If it does, try setting the things back you changed, except for the service that was set to automatic.

good luck

Hate to say I told you so........ :D

This will be my last attempt to help you, although I must be nuts.

Services!

Checkout the network services that are started when you have a successful connection

Set them to automatic ONE by ONE . Don't stop them.

Reboot after every single change. and check out if the problem is gone.

Don't change any more permissions.

Good luck

When you click on the bar above started or stopped, you can arrange the started ones to be on top.

Take a screenshot.

Print it if you can.

Now force the network.

Do the same thing, arranging the started services on top, and make a second screenshot and print.

Now you can see which services were started when you forced the network.

Set those to automatic. and reboot.

That should do the trick.

good luck

ok thanks ill do that, when I'm done I'll post the results.

EDIT: There doesn't seem to be any services that start/stop once initiating a connection or cutting it, and this problem is getting beyond annoying. I also managed to kinda screw up my OS while trying to fix it anyways, so I'm gunna try upgrading to the same build win 7 again, and if that fails well then too bad for me, backing up and doin clean install over again. I know this must be some problem that is unique to this install of mine of win 7, as I've never had this problem with any other win 7 install or any other windows install in general either.

Thanks to all that tried to help.
