I have a random cursor jumping around when I type

1st off I have a Gateway md2614u laptop, os Win7 home 32bit. Sometimes when I am typing (I could be in the mail reader, note pad, word pad, or anywere else that I type more then a few words) without any warning the cursor will jump to a different line and my typing will continue on that the new place if I don't catch it. Like in an email prog the cursor has jumped down to the end of the auto signature (when I start a new email in the email reader will auto place a pre-made signature on the blank page) and the typing will go on from there. Also sometimes the cursor will jump completely out of the Windows box or the prog I am in and back to the desktop. So far it has been no more than a minor annoyance. I would like to know why it does that though. :banghead:

Start > Control Panel > Hardware and sounds > Mouse > Pointer Options > and uncheck hide pointer while typing
Click Apply. A Restart might be in order.

Not sure to be honest, possibly. Have you tried unchecking Hide pointer while typing? As you didnt say?

Good job , Perhaps open notepad and try typing and see if the issue is resolved?

Also try your game and see if that issue is also resolved?

I had that problem with an older Toshiba laptop. Turned out it was the touch pad mouse built into the laptop. I think it may have been getting set off from the slight sweeps of the palm of my hand. I did a little research and found a later driver for it. fixed the problem for me. perhaps you should go to Gateway's support site and check for the latest driver for your touch pad. good luck

To FaberTech I use an external wireless mouse. I find I have an over all better control using the wireless mouse over the internal tuch pad

I am still having this problem of the cursor jumping around.

I am using the HP Presario model C700 laptop that I got back from the pawn shop now because the GateWay laptop went belly up and croaked. I think the GateWay popped a voltage regulator. It is deader then a door nail.
Anyways the HP Presario had os 1st gen Vista in it when I 1st got it. So I wiped the partition (I don't care for the 1st gen Vista) and installed the Win7 Home 32bit os that I have. Everything was (still is) fine except for the same problem that I had before of the cursor jumping around, moving to different spots in the text that I am typing in and so on. How can 2 totally different laptops made by different company's have the same problem? The only thing that the 2 laptops have in common besides the same type of hard drive (a sata hard drive) is the operating system. So does anyone have any ideas short of buying a new operating system?
