Solved Plug 2 pin connector on MoBo

I bought a Startech hot swap tray for my 5.25 bay and it installed with no problem,but I have a 2pin connector for the LED and I do not know where to plug it in at. Also do I need to plug it in?:huh: I have a EVGA 680iLT mobo if that helps. I do not see anything in the mannua.l

Are you talking about the HDD activity light? What is the model number of the Startech hot swap tray?

Yes,it is for the HHD activity LED.

Hello Jake,

It's not going to hurt anything to not have the HDD activity LED pin connected if you didn't want to. You just will not have the HDD light blink on the rack when there's activity.

Most likely the HDD activity LED front connector on the motherboard is already being used by your case HDD activity light pin instead.

Normally, the HDD activity LED plugs in to the front panel connector on the motherboard. I wonder if you need to plug this lead into a socket on the Startech unit and then plug the lead from that unit into the motherboard, so the LED is daisy-chained and lights whenever the motherboard connected drive(s) or the drive in the unit is/are reading/writing data.

Without the model number of the Startech unit (or a link to where you got it from), I cannot say for certain whether this is the case.

Look on the back of the Startech unit to see if it has a 2-pin connector on it labeled for HDD LED for what Dwarf posted above to connect the Startech to the motherboard and the computer case pin to the Startech.

Yes it does say HHD LED. There is no socket on the Hot Swap only the wire coming from the led to the connector.

Looking at your motherboard manual, it only has one 2-pin HDD LED activity connection on it.

It's pretty much either the computer case or the Hot Swap to connect to it, and not both.

If you are handy with wiring, you could splice them together to be able to connect both to the motherboard. Just make sure that you have pin 1 (+) on the wires matched.
