Codecs not showing up in Sony Vegas and VirtualDub

So I recently built a new computer and put 64-bit Windows 7 RC on it, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get H264, xvid, etc to show up in Sony Vegas and virtual dub. I am running the 64 bit versions of both programs, and I believe I have downloaded the 64 bit versions of the codecs, but have had no luck. Any ideas?

Are they pointing to the right path? Remeber 32-bit apps now show up in C:\Program Files (x86) rather than C:\Program Files now that you are on 64-bit OS. Make sure that it is pointing to the directory these codes reside.

I don't like codec packs. I use ffdshow codec.
ffdshow is an advanced DirectShow filter and VFW codec that supports many audio and video formats. For example: H.264, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, H.263, VP3, VP6, Theora, MJPEG, SVQ3, MP3, AC3, DTS, E-AC3, AAC, and Vorbis.
For media player: mplayer classic or KMplayer.

What do you mean, "they"? Do you mean the codecs themselves? Could you elaborate?

In Vegas and Virtual dub, is there an option to point to where the codecs are installed?

I had exactly the same problem and found a solution a few minutes ago - I saw this thread and registered to make this post ;)

This is what I did:

-Remove ALL codecs installed
-install the (experimental) x64 version of ffdshow (DOWNLOAD)
Hope it works!

Solution for LAME and other Codecs in x64 systems

I had issues using LAME in Virtualdub in both Vista 64 and W7 64. Nothing with an installer worked for me and codec packs are usually trouble down the road.

Here's the solution: You can replace LAME with any ACM codec I believe.

CMD PROMPT:
Change directories: CD c:\windows\syswow64
UNZIP your ACM codec to C: (or wherever you want)
TYPE: rundll32 setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\lameACM.inf

Won't show up in device mgr because they are 32 bit, but your apps should see them now.:D
