The Register is reporting that MS is getting ready to release IE10 for Windows 7, perhaps the “end of February/beginning of March” - this would be pushed in the auto update as an important update.
MS has issued an automatic update blocker toolkit for IE10/Win7 on 30 January. Read the article at:
At the risk of of sounding illeterate, what is the "automatic update blocker toolkit"? I wont be updating to IE10. I'm still on IE8, and will move to a non-MS browser one day when I can find the time to evaluate a couple.
I'm concerned that the above means MS will be forcing IE10 on us, in which case my search for a real browser will have to be accelerated. Or does it simply mean that no one can update to IE10/Win7 until the "flick the switch" so-to-speak?
Not a fan of IE either, but you have to admit that MS at least is headed in the right direction with 9 and I'm assuming 10. I keep them on my machine (and updated!), because of the very few sites that won't handle my beloved Opera. Have heard nothing but good things about 10 actually, so we'll see.
Hi there
IE10 seems to give me far less problems than IE9 -- can't wait for it on W7.
IE9 on W7 often yields "Your browser session has unexepectedly died".
I did try and go back to IE8 but IE9 seemed to re-install itself somehow -- Windows update ??.
Haven't had that problem with IE10 and W8.
To all IE haters:
IE10 seems quite Ok and a lot less "Bloat" which is why I gave up using the old Firefox browser in the first place.
Cheers

Considering the direction that M$ has taken with Win 8 and Office 13, I'm going to wait a bit before adopting IE10, at least until user reports of the the final version have rolled in; it's not unusual for final versions to differ from preview versions. The fact that M$ has accelerated the release also makes me a bit nervous.

The next round of MS updates is March 12 (3 weeks away). Don't know if IE10 will be on that day or maybe a special release day. I have switched to IE10 in Windows 8 from Firefox and it seams to be OK. Too many useless updates (with new version number) to Firefox with their 6 week schedule and then no support for previous versions.

Just more bloatware waiting to cause problems, more if released in a rush by MS. One more reason to keep Windows Update always disabled and carefully check what it tries to push into my PC.
Will wait a couple of months to try again. There is no real reason to use IE when having the chance of using a real, secure browser instead.

I hate to sound rude, but if think firefox or chrome are more secure than IE9/10, you're crazy. I can't stand that firefox and chrome just let anything download or run unless you use a bunch of add-ons.
Hi there
There's much LESS Bloat in IE10 than IE9. You need precisely ZERO ADDONS etc in IE10 and Ms has really improved IE these days -- Most of the bad security holes that IE9 has can't really be fixed in any case in the browser per se because you have such things like "drive by infections" etc. which require significant enhancements to the Windows Kernel itself rather than the browser.
The way W7 implements security is DIFFERENT to W8 -- some of the fixes need to be done in the Windows KERNEL itself rather than the browser -- this is implemented in W8.
What IE10 will do for W7 is provide some of the W8 security enhancements by making special adjustments to the W7 kernel itself as well as "normal browser patches".
In any case as far as Internet security is concerned the weakest link in the chain is NOT the browser but YOU.
How many people download without thinking about it those "Scan your computer" or "Fix your Registry" programs without having a clue what's really going on or checking first that the site is actually legit and not spyware or worse.
Torrents etc are also a source of malware rather than the browser used to download them --although these days the "better" ?? torrent sites are reasonably well controlled.
How many people open email attachments without even thinking who they are from, reply to obvious scams like emails requesting Bank data because they are "updating their security system", or just being totally idiotic in giving out all sorts of private info and putting it out in eminently Hackable public domain sites like facebook etc.
The biggest Danger is not the browser BUT YOU the user. IE10 does what it can better than IE9 but you can't make computers "Userproof".

Yesterday on a Cleveland radio station (WTAM-1100) news they had a report of the amount of money Microsoft is spending in the next few month to promote I.E. 10.
I can't remember ever hearing anything on the radio station like that before about any browser.

As I recall, IE6/7 are not supported anymore (nor have been for some time now). IE8 is the highest version XP can use so M$ has to keep supporting it until 04/08/2014 when XP loses its support. Anyone using Win7 should be using Win9. It's been aroud long enough to be reasonably stable. If it's not, then there probably is something else wrong on the computer.
As I said before, I'll wait until after I start hearing/reading good reports about the final release, especially since M$ has been handing out so many unpleasant surprises lately.
