Hi,

I notice in Windows 8 slight changes have been made to where screen shots are written to. In previous versions of windows they've always been written to the clipboard with each additional screenshot being overwritten but now in windows 8 they appear to be written and stored in a folder which means you can take multiple screenshots without the previous one being overwritten.

I want to know if it's possible to make that feature available in windows 7 since it was a big leap for me to upgrade from XP and if it wasn't for carrying features over from XP I wouldn't have upgraded ie T800's Folder Options X It would be really neat if they could add that to their utility :p :)

Believe you'll need a clipboard enhancer utility and there are many, some are free. Rather than recommend a specific tool you may want to do a web search for free download clipboard utility

I'll suggest bCheck's apps - It is your mama's software because it is tiny, free and no adverts. It uses BMP files for the output.

Here is a virustotal scan of that app - not sure why Panda does not like it.
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...439af7dcc03ec6708de89261/analysis/1361695414/

I personally don't use that tool because I have no need of such.

Thanks for the suggestion but it seems using above tool prompts for an immediate action. I would want one where I could press screen shot several times in short space of time with them automatically being saved somewhere otherwise I could just use the snipping tool ?

Say for example I'm watching a live video steam and instead of recording I just want to snap a couple of shots maybe even several effectively capturing it like a video.. It's not really important but I just felt it was neat improvement and one I had hoped for in previous versions so is nice to see its now available.

I'm not ready to upgrade to windows 8 as I like to leave it for at least 3 years plus it seems T800's Folder Options X might not be supported which its really important to have control and be able to organize my files.. a feature I desperately wanted while using windows xp was a context menu to be able to arrange files in descending order which turned up in windows 7 so is great :)

You guys are kinda missing my point ? I asked if it was possible to enable me to use Windows 8 screen shot feature where it writes to a folder and not the clipboard so maybe a registry edit. It is not really worth installing additional programs/software for simple function.

I will attempt to contact T800 to see if they can possibly help. If anyone else knows then please feel free to add to the thread

You need to turn on the automatic saving feature via the options window.

Please watch this at 720p and in the full screen mode:

>> I will attempt to contact T800 to see if they can possibly help.

T800 is a single individual. He might be willing to add this feature to that script. You can ask for that here:
Folder Options X for Windows 7 - Page 2 - Utilities - AutoHotkey Community

I've written a tool like this using AutoIt3 (it was for someone else to use) but I've been away from AutoHotKey too long to know how hard it would be to code this in that scripting language. Nothing that I could write would be as tiny (take up as little RAM) as the software that I pointed you too.

Hey,

Well in that case it actually seems to work pretty well and I will give it a try.. unfortunately I already contacted T800 through private message via utube but is ok as I thanked him for his work on Folder Options X and offered to donate Paypal. Thanks for taking time to make video :)

You are welcome.

I could have written out the steps on how to change the option settings, but I wanted to show that the app does its thing pretty quickly too - hence the video :-)

Hey,

Since installing Purrint it has not worked as I expected.. even after restart it continues to capture just my desktop minus any opened windows and minus my taskbar and start menu ?

Edit 7//7/13: Using ShareX which seems to work good. Not exactly what I wanted but at least it's nice piece of software and works good

That is odd. What is your screen resolution? I did not see your screen res in your specs. Is it there and I missed it?

edit: and what is your theme?

bummer - that app was so tiny and it had a clean uncluttered interface.

I'm sure that there are other tools out there that do the same thing, but it did not sound like you wanted to install a 3rd party app in the first place.

If you cannot find one that works for you, then I'll help you write one.

Or, if writing one interests you, then you might want to skip searching. We would be working in AutoIt3.

Let me know.

Purrint works really fast and captures everything:
taskbar (start orb and systray), open windows, context menus, alpha windows (tool tips and tray tips).

The nice thing about AutoIt3 is that it has been around for a long time and lots of people have written the code for you. You just put it together (which is why it is called scripting rather than programming). These two lines is all it takes to capture the desktop and put it into a file:

Code:
#include <ScreenCapture.au3>
_ScreenCapture_Capture(@MyDocumentsDir & "\GDIPlus_Image1.jpg")

That "include line" is a file that comes with AutoIt3. Some nice person put lots of work into that and gave it to the world. You and I would add lines so that when you hit the print screen button - those two lines would run.

Ok, do I download AutoIt3 to compile it into an .exe ? maybe purrint will work after I format my computer system.. It's been long over due I just wanted to wait till I grew accustom to windows 7 and have my operating system running perfectly before creating a master image backup. I guess it's not a big deal having a 3rd party app more of a preference and would much prefer if I could change something in registry to make it work like Windows 8

Haven't heard back from T800 yet but I gathered since his applications focused on bringing functions that existed on previous versions of windows to latest operating system that he maybe able to take functions from present versions.. Windows 8 registry/core structure can't be that much different from windows 7 can it ?

I leave most of my scripts as a text file but you can compile it if you want.

Take a look at the second video in this post:
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...ear-after-explorer-restart-2.html#post1841812

Since I have to get some rest, I've tossed together the basic lines needed to make it do what you want. It might not write the file where you want it - but we can change that later.

Code:
Opt ("TrayIconDebug", 1)

$S_running = "~screen---cap~"
If WinExists($S_running) Then Exit
AutoItWinSetTitle($S_running)

#include <ScreenCapture.au3>

HotKeySet ("{PRINTSCREEN}", "_do_work")

While 1
    Sleep(1000)
WEnd

Func _do_work()
    Local $path_plus = @MyDocumentsDir & "\" & @YEAR & "-" & @MON & "-" & @MDAY & "-" & @SEC & "-" & @MSEC & "-"
    _ScreenCapture_Capture($path_plus & "screen.jpg")
EndFunc
The first line puts the icon in the system tray into a debug mode that helps us a bit as we write. You can click on that icon to pause or exit the script.

Most programs have a window title - you just cannot see them if the window is hidden. The trio of lines, assigns a window title to a variable and then uses that variable to check of other windows with that title. If none are found, it assigns the title to the script's hidden window. If you tried to run a second copy of the script while the first one is running, the second copy would just exit.

The "include line" is where all of the hard work was done by someone else :-)

The hotkey line sets what key we want to use to make things happen.

The While/Wend trio of lines makes the script hang around and sleep until you press print screen.

The function lines do the work of grabbing the screen and saving it.

I'll be back later on to answer you questions and to help you change things.

No, I don't think that is it different at all, but the registry is not where this type of thing is done. It is done by calling libraries out of Dynamic Link Library files (DLL files). Some program has to call those libraries, organize the data and write it to a file. All the registry would be good for is telling the program where to find the DLL file. There still has to be a program and a DLL file (well usually that is the combo). W7 does not have that program. W7 does have the GDI DLL files. Those have been around since XP.

:-)
