Win 7 - Shared folders don't show up on Android tablet

I have an Android tablet (Asus Infinity TF700) that has a share app called "MyNet". I have shared several folders on my PC (Win 7). The external PC drive (Root J: ) shows up on the tablet, as well as a shared folder. But when I open the J: drive or a folder on my tablet, only one sub-folder shows up, and then only one sub-folder of that one. Yet, windows tells me that the entire external drive is shared to everyone. I have also gone into the folders and sub-folders and shared individual sub-folders and even individual files. Windows shows that these are all shared with everyone, but still only the same few show up on my tablet.

I can share files between my tablet, my phone and a second tablet (all three share things no problem.) But no matter what I do to the sharing on the PC only the same few folders and files show up on the tablet. The ones that do show up will display OK on the tablet (Music/Video/Photos etc.)

I have McAfee Security and it controls Windows firewall, but I don't understand that if either of these were a problem, why would SOME files and folders, and the whole J: drive even show up?

Any help would be welcome.

Try disabling McAfee temporarily as well as the firewall to see if that's blocking it somehow. Personally I don't like McAfee but that's besides the point. Sounds like your tablet doesn't have the right permissions to view the files. You can allow users to view the directories but not contents. Try allowing 'everyone' to have full permissions and make sure it's not hidden. It could also be the software you're using, MyNet. McAfee could be blocking the port it's trying to use or the software itself considering Android is just Linux.

Bulletng,
I disabled McAfee but no difference. But I don't think it would be that anyway, because as I said, some of the shared folders and their contents DO show up on the tablet. This one really has me stumped.

What items show up and which ones do not? Are they in different folders or does only half of the folders contents show?

OK, So the root external drive I call my J: drive. That shows up on the tablet. When I open it, one folder shows up. I call it my backup but it's not a system backup or anything..........just a folder where I make copies of stuff I want to have in duplicate, and also it's accessible to other computers on the home network via the router. OK so that folder also shows up. When I open it, only one folder shows up, but the 'J:/mybackupstuff has dozens of folders, as well as a few files not in folders. None of that shows up.

So you can see J:/mybackupstuff but nothing within that?

On that mybackupstuff folder, right-mouse click and select properties, Security tab, click Advanced then Change Permissions.
Go to Advanced Security Settings. What do you see as permissions?

Add 'everyone' and select Full Access.
Then uncheck Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent.
And check Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object.

If you have Windows 7, you should also check your Advance Sharing Settings.
Navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
and apply the appropriate settings for your Domain/Workgroup.

Well, I did the steps above as you told me too, but it didn't solve the problem. And now I have an even worse problem. I can't access the folder on my PC either. It tells me I no longer have permission to access the folder. So a lot of my files are locked from my use. I am logged on as administrator, and there is only the one account on this computer. But it still won't let me access the folder now. Any ideas how to correct that? I can't change anything in sharing or security either....it won't let me.

It seems I was able to change the owner and then the permissions again. It's OK now but I have no idea how I fixed it!

But the sharing still doesn't work. Maybe I need some media server software?

Well it seems that I have partially solved the issue. I had to drag the folders into the Windows Media player library. Now almost everything shows up on the tablet (as well as on the WiFi on the TV). But a few things don't appear, even though they are in the same folders as other things and those folders are shared. Also got one error that the server was not available for one video, but other things played fine. But at least it's a step in the right direction. I had no idea that Media player would be the problem.
