hey everybody, i have an odd 5900 RPM HDD that i need to swap out. i'm going to swap it out mainly because it's better suited for storage/backup rather than being my main HDD for usage/boot-up.

i don't want to reinstall Win7 (7100) and i want to copy everything from HDD "a" to HDD "b". any ideas/suggestions/comments?

Hi and welcome to seven forums

You can easily make a clone of your HD by using a third party app like Acronis true image

i have a passion in hating Norton products (it's ironic that i have a friend with the last name Norton. xD).

it looks like that Acronis costs money. does the free trial work in full ? (cause i got like one or two shots at this. i will do a backup... but there's no guarantees that i can piece it back together)

2 other FREE options...
Get the HDD diagnostics for the newer HDD from the manuf. site...most if not all of these have a "Clone Disc" feature.
The other one is Macrium Reflect...the Home User edition is FREE.

If you use Acronis, I recommend using the clone disk wizard that is found under the Utilities section of the program.

got my HDDs wednesday. net went down wednesday. installed Acronis same day (had already downloaded it). used Clone Disk function and in about 1 hour, all my 150GB was transferred into one of the working Black Caviar 640GB WD HDDs. (one HDD had a ding, dead center and could not be recognized in any enclosure or machine)
