Writing to DVD RAM seems to be somewhat of a problem on W7, with speeds going through the floor, yesterday copying around 3.5Gb started at a decent speed of over 1Mb/s, only to drop off to around 100kb/s after about half an hour, with a "time remaining" increasing beyond every reason.

Then, today I decided to try something different. I've got VirtualBox on this PC with a copy of XP. Of course XP didn't like the UDF 2.01 formatted DVD-RAM, but that was solved by installing InCD.

And guess? Copying to DVD-RAM still isn't really fast, but at around 4 to 5 minutes per GB it's an order of magnitude faster than using W7 itself...

Try reinstalling the driver for your DVD-RAM drive. To do this, go to start, type in device manager, then press enter. Double click on DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click on your DVD-RAM drive and select uninstall. Once the drive is uninstalled, reboot your computer.
