I ran into a problem. It did not show up the flash drive. I don't understand why.. Should I instead put the file in a directory on the My Book and see if that works?? Or on a floppy? Seems it is detecting the floppy so maybe it will work??

Okay I was able to put the ROM file on a blank unused floppy (reformatted it in Windows .. is that good enough?). Then after that I thought about how it detected the My Book and realized that USB does work so perhaps it was the usb port I used for the flash drive. I had it in the internal USB card port instead of the built in one.. Perhaps I should have unplugged my MyBook for the time being and put the Flash Drive in that USB port as that one is the MoBo one.. I guess that makes a difference? Anyway going to try the Floppy.

Okay it was like I thought .. I tried a floppy and that did not work (didn't read even though it detects it..) so I tried the flash drive but this time in a USB slot that is on the motherboard (Drive I or Slot 4 but Drive D when in that EZ Flash 2 program). That worked.

I didn't know what to do when I rebooted and saw that it didn't go directly into the BIOS even though I hit Del and even tried ESC) and it didn't load into Windows neither. But then I figured it out and chose F1 and am back in now with an updated BIOS.

Thanks for all your help. Now while I am at my family's all day enjoying Easter I will let Memtest run.

If all goes fine there then I will mark this thread as solved. (Unless I get a BSoD before I get a chance to :shock.

How many passes should Memtest run for? It has run for 3 passes without any troubles. I am typing this on a little net book. The main computer is still running Memtest.

Let it run 8-10 passes . It will let you know if its complete .

I noticed my desktop gadgets disappeared when I was finished all these steps. How do I get them back? I only had the ones I trusted.

Take a look in msconfig .

Click on rb: type msconfig inside the Search programs and files box . Press [ENTER] of you get an UAC window click on Yes to proceed to msconfig . Window title is System Configuration. Click on the Startup tab . Place a check next to the gadgets you want.

Thank you. Mine was selected but not showing up so I had to do Option 2 and run that Show_Desktop_Gadgets.reg file. I rebooted after doing so and that worked.

Also with the Memtest I had only ran it 3 passes. I came home after the day with my family and wanted to use my computer and after posting via my net book (which isn't meant for much so I couldn't do what I wanted to on it like I can on this computer) I thought that since there were no errors with 3 passes and it said it was complete after 1 pass that it was okay. I kept checking this thread but realized that with Easter you probably wouldn't be able to get back to me for awhile. Anyway should I run it again and do the more passes this time?

You want to run the memtest over night cause the test could fail towards the end of the test . Seen it happen .
