Looks like a good build. Out of curiosity why 16gb of Ram? What graphic card to you plan on? And what do you plan to use the rig for?

Why 16, so I can add 16 more later on. I`m gonna just use it to surf the net LOL. But seriously, I`ll be doing some gaming.

The card I want to get will be either an Asus 660 or 660 Ti or the MSI 660 Twin Frozr.

I only asked because 8gb is the sweetspot for gaming. You could use the money saved on ram towards a SSD or the water cooler. Does look like a pretty sweet build

I just bought a ssd, it`s in my specs. So I don`t need that. I got 8 gigs of ddr3 1066 just layin here from a job I did awhile ago, ( anyone wants it, let me know ) but I want the faster Corsair.

I`m not gonna buy just 1 8 gig stick of memory, the 2 pack of Corsair is $119, no biggy.

I have the Z77MA-G45, you a looker at a higher end one. As you will have a K chip, I would make sure you can use Vdroop option in it's BIOS, you might need the g65 or higher for that. But if you only plan to OC to 4.5 it will be good.

The G65 is $200 and doesn`t say anything about supporting the 3rd generation i5 or 7 chip.

Nice components. I was looking at the similar ones for upgrading one of my boxes. I just picked a different board. You apparently want to OC the i5K (water cooling). This is a pretty potent aircooler that was recommended - as an alternative.

Just be aware that Windows Home Premium supports only 16GB of RAM. So if you want to go beyond, you'll need a higher edition.

ADDRAM, my board will OC, I was just mentioning the vdroop if you are doing some major OCing. My board can OC easily, just wanted to make you aware because having a K chip and water cooling you can really push it. The original board will do 4.5 easy. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

If the chipset is Z77 it supports Ivy Bridge, 3rd gen Intel chips.

AddRam, download the manuals for the mainboards form MSI Global ? Motherboard

Review each one and verify this BIOS has all the settings you want. Again my board will OC easily, but the higher end one offer more settings like Vdroop for more control if you are planning heavy OCing.


And the Board that WHS posted is a pretty good pick.

I have Cooler Master Ice Fusion, but I think it`s garbage.

I`m not gonna do any crazy overclocking so that shouldn`t be an issue, dam I`d be crazy happy in the 4 GHz area !!!
