Dunno about pirated, you can still buy the boxed copies on Amazon. They sell better than 8 boxed copies, obviously, so don't know if you find them easily in say 6mths time.

Be careful about buying software from Amazon. I've seen too many reports of bogus software being sold there to trust them for software. And their Marketplace vendors aren't any better than FleaBay.

I buy software from them all the time and never had an issue. My recent buys have been, Adobe Lightroom 4, Photoshop CS6, Dreamweaver CS6, and Adobe Acrobat Xl to name a few.

That said, what I wouldn't do is buy from them if they are shipping from a 3rd party outside of Amazon. If it's sold by and ships from Amazon, I'm in, if not, I'm out.

Anyway no issues here.

Same here whs. We have a Microcenter store here in Dallas so I deal with them too, but when I buy online it's Newegg. I had to buy my W7 there, Microcenter was all out.
I've always had a good experience with Newegg.

I buy a few electronic items from Amazon (not their Marketplace vendors) but I get my software from NewEgg, Fry's (the actual store), or directly from the manufacturer. Most of the rest of my electronics come from NewEgg.

I won't buy any USB flash drives or camera cards from Amazon, either.

Yeah, that another thing I like about Amazon, no taxes as well. Depending on where you live.

Anyway all retailers have issues from time to time, but I find Amazon's customer service to be pretty good. Of course no one is perfect so... I just know in my 13 years of dealing with them has given me pretty good service.

The other thing with them is they are a reputable dealer so "unauthorized dealer" issues don't pop up should you need warranty service. This is why I usually buy from them, and not their Marketplace sellers. Especially expensive items.

Question for you whs since you are multi lingual. The German copy of Windows 7, if that is an Ultimate you can use the language packs, I assume to make it whatever language you wish? But German would be the base language? Is that how that works? Sorry for such a dumb question but I am a lazy English speaker. I am fluent in British and American English and BS.

You can just put the lp.cab in with dism.

Then when you install, you can choose which language to install.

You can't then change it on the fly.

If you want to switch to the other language, you would have to reinstall the os and select the other language.

In whs case, it doesn't matter. He can use the product key that came with English dvd when he installs from German dvd , or vice versa.

Well. it is not an Ultimate, it is a Home Premium. But for me it makes little difference whether it's German or English.

If it were Ultimate and you installed the English language pack, you would get 90% in English. But there are some corners of the OS where the translation does not seem to work, e.g. in some command prompt windows.

If the German version were an original OEM installation, I would download an English version and activate it with the key on the COA sticker. If it were a seperately purchased version, that key may (or may not) work for activation of an English version.

Also enclose what the Markets think of Apple -- and it's not good. AAPL is on a one way trip to nowhere -- with the amount of cash already amassed they won't disappear overnight - but the long downward inevitable decline into obscurity is starting already.

The PC itself is also on a downward spiral -- nothing can halt that - but it will still remain as a niche product. This is NOTHING to do with W8.

If the PC is phasing out what will replace it to do the real work that powers the world economy, easily more than half of what computers are used for?

Will accountants turn their phone or tablet sideways to plot sales on spreadsheets? Will word processing be done on keyboards snapped onto tablets?

By pushing out an OS that has zero Desktop Experience, MS seems to be trying to trigger the death of the PC, but where will business go?

Wait, we already know. Business responded to months-long scare campaigns about BIOS viruses unless they get Win8 Secure Boot by deciding to go nearly 100% with Windows 7.

So you have at least half of computing - the half which drives the world economy, not checks on Brittny's latest DUI - choosing Win7 on the desktop. Do you embrace those booming sales by your ignored stepkid, or keep trying to flog your dead-horse bad Ipad imitation?

Put Win7 back on all desktop PC's, Win8 on touchscreens only. Give Upgrade rights to Win7 to all who got stuck with Win8 on PC's. Do this as though the company's survival depends upon it.

This is really pushing it. Greg is right - what will run the economy. Are we going to do accounts receivable, inventory control, spreadsheets and alike from smartphones.

I've hammered this obvious point on a number of occasions.
In the medium term I cannot envisage business doing away with some form of desktop. We have these things called fingers and eyeballs - human ergonomics.

It's undeniable there are other factors involved, but considering how polarizing and highly unpopular W8 has been, W8 cannot escape it's share of the blame for the downward slide of PC sales.

At a time when Microsoft needed to do something impressive, they totally blew it!

I think you are right. If Windows 8 would have really impressed us like Windows 7 did, it could have sponsored PC sales. That is not to say that there would have been a double digit PC growth, but the nums would not have looked as dismal as they look now.
