The Samsung utility worked. I'm running on the new hard drive as I type this, and everything is as it should be. Why can't Microsoft make it this simple?

This is a good DM picture.

I agree with you. M$ should have supplied a simple program like this. But they always have to complicate things.

Anyhow, you are up and running, that's all which counts. How do you like the speed of the SSD.

This thing is fantastic. Seconds, instead of minutes, to get to the desktop. This is really what my computer needed to bring it back to life. My Windows Performance Index used to be 5.9 based on my HDD performance. Now I'm at 6.9 with a 7.9 (max on the scale) primary drive performance. Everything the computer does feels faster. I'll never have another computer without a SSD.

I know what you are talking about. I got my first SSD in 2008 and never had another system without SSD. What is your Dell system. I have an XPS 8300 and there I have nearly the same WEI numbers.

Good deal. This lappy has quite some muscle. I really don't use the laptops which are mostly used by my wife. I prefer the big 22" screen of the desktop.

Yep, the CPU hits 3.0 GHz when needed. Desktop replacement. 2 USB 3.0, a USB 2.0, and a combo USB 2.0/eSATA port. I don't use my desktop anymore, but I will probably build one again sometime in the not too distant future. I think my next purchase will be a tablet. Probably the Transformer 700.

I have a little Nexus 7 tablet which works very well. My use of the tablet is very different than the use of the PC.

I use it mainly on trips for navigation, trip planning, phone calls via VoIP (I have no cell phone), checking the mail and some diddling on the internet. Although I have a bluetooth keyboard (mainly for the wife), I would not attempt to do any serious work on a tablet - too finagle.

I like the 7" form factor because I can stick it into my jacket pocket. Those 10"+ devices are too big for that. And the Nexus was only $230 for a 32GB model. The quadcore Tegra 3 in combination with Android is very fast.

Hey,

A quick question about this software, my current set up is that i have an SSD as my OS drive with a couple of different software programs installed e.g. Word and 1 or 2 games and i have a 1TB HDD with all my data. I moved the default location of my user files, My Documents, Temp folder and Program Files over to this drive. What i wanted to know is if i image my drives would i be able to just restore the images to other drives (Example a new SSD and HDD) and everything will go back to being as it was? A friend recommended Acronis as well.

Regards

How did you move default location? By using junction points? Or just by changing registry values and drag and drop?

You did modify TMP and TEMP environment variables. Maybe created junction points as well for other folders. Maybe modified registry settings. Maybe changed the explorer libraries.

No matter what you did... all is working now I assume. Assume it's pointing to disk F now.... you can backup and restore F to any disk you want without issues. As long as the correct drive is called F in win7!!! You can change drive letters using "disk management".

Yup@environment variables.
For Program Files change the registry value and for My Documents create a new folder where you want the My Documents folders to go then right click the original folder e.g My Documents, My Music etc then go to the Location tab and set the location to a new folder that you created. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html

Yup everything is working, i can't remember which thread i followed exactly as it was a couple months ago but the main idea was to get as much off the SSD to optimize performance.
