Need urgent help setting up laptop as wifi hotspot using ICS

Hi, I am on holiday at the moment and trying to set my lap top as a wifi hotspot.

I have two identical Acer Aspire one Laptops both running windows 7. I can only connect to the internet in the hotel room using one wired connection. So I wanted to set up one Laptop up so as a wifi hotspot to connect the other to it wirelessly and share the internet connection.

I can create the addhoc connection and turn on ICS no problem. I can connect the client laptop to the server but no matter what I do I can not get internet connection sharing to work!

I have even tried MaryFi and Connectivity software but that does not work either.

Can anyone help me out please?

You do realize that an Ad Hoc network is sharing a wireless connection to another wireless client?

You are trying to use ICS to create an Ad Hoc network. This isn't a supported configuration although I have seen a few people get this to work but unfortunately it's not repeatable, it's also not reliable even if they do get it to work. It's basically not a supported configuration so it's very unlikely you can get this to work reliably if at all, but if you do find a way then please report the procedure here.

I have used this setup before and had it working, although it was a while ago. I think I used MaryFi, but I have tried this again and it didn't work.

But in theory it should work as the set up I have is Laptop A is connected to the internet through the ethernet card via cable, not wireless. So once I have made the add hoc connection from Laptop B to Laptop A via wireless, Laptop B should connect to the internet via Laptop A.

But for some reason it wont

Connectify has a Pro version that may be able to do what you want but it costs money, still it's made to share a wireless connection not a wired one.

This one shows how to set up a hosted wireless network using the command prompt.

Thanks for that. I have not tried the command prompt yet, but the other 2 do not work. I tried the free version of Connectify, but no good.

I think I may need to give up on this
