Black border's around screen when in bios or safe mode

Ello folk's
I just wanna pick your brain's a bit as i have this issue that has pickled me for a while now. Since i switched from AMD to Nvidia i have had a 2 inch black border around the display while in the bios and safe mode. When no display driver is installed too.
While searching online i've not managed to find any solution to it and the only suggestions were update bios(done).
Someone else on the EVGA forums was adamant that it was due to the scaling options of my monitor.
I have checked the scaling options and none have any effect on the black border which i expected to be the case as it's only happend since i switched to Nvidia. When i had my HD6950 the screen was as it should be...
Any input is much appreciated as always

Thanks for the link AddRam but it's a different issue to what i have. As i said it is only while in the bios, Safe mode or when NO display driver is installed. It does not happen while in Windows with a display driver installed. It's not due to my monitor's scaling as it never happend with AMD.
The screenie is just one i made up with an by adding the black border but looks as it does in the bios.
It doesn't cause any problem but would be nice to sort it out..

Edit: Just did a google search and found more related info this time. It's something to do with Nvidia but they and everyone else are passing the blame to the monitor manufacturer's. A lot of 680 owner's have the same issue How they can say it's not an Nvidia issue is beyond me as the only thing to change in my rig before this happend was the gpu's. I was running a 6950 without any problem and as soon as i installed the 670's it started.

I have the same border in bios if i use my widescreen. My 17 inch doesnt do it. If I use my igpu it doesnt do it. It is nvidia for sure.

I was convinced it was caused by nvidia card, but now I wonder. I swapped my dell 2309w with a synchmaster 2243bwx and it shows the bios full screen

I read somewhere it has to do with the vesa settings in the vcard bios. Possible to mod it I think

Yeah maybe but modding the bios is not something i'd mess with but you'd think they would have sorted it by now.

Yes it is, I have done a little bios modding as far has changing the boost and voltage, but I'm lost on the vesa settings. The BIOS does look so much better full screen so they need to fix it asap!!

I thought that too, but if I use the IGPU it shows full screen, so again it points to nvidia. I don't know what the answer is, it's confusing.

Thats what a lot of folk are saying and that it is to do with your monitors scaling but this can't be the case as it would have been the same when i had an ATI card. I much prefered my bios in full screen

I have no way to test, but it may have to do with a monitor's native resolution too since Dude said his 17" displays full screen.
I'm a noob and guessing.

Okay, in case I confused anyone this is how I can get full screen BIOS on the DELL S2309W

Hooking the Dell S2309W to the IGPU with dvi, bios is full screen.

Hooking the Dell to the Nvidia GTX 660 by dvi, it's not full screen, it has the black bars.

My HP 17 inch monitor BIOS is full screen on IGPU or GTX 660.

My Samsung 2243 BIOS is fullscreen on Nvida 660 or IGPU.

Is it 16 x 9 monitors will not show full screen bios?

Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Thanks Gary, I'm the one confused. As far as I can see it's 16x9 monitors that wont display the BIOS full screen.

Me too, I got the damn numbers wrong! It is 1920x1080, I do that often.

Well, I never paid attention to it until this question came up. I guess it didn't bother me too much. I have the border in bios. (picture below). In safe mode, I have to look hard to notice it as the screen and background is black. But, I can tell. But, in safe mode the default resolution is 600X800. I changed my resolution to 1920X1080 and the border was not there, that I could tell. At least the task bar went all the way to the edge of the screen on both sides. Here is a shot of my bios.

Odd, in Safe Mode for me the max resolution is 1280x1024.
