Urgent!!! security issue

I apologise if i am posting this in the wrong place but this is quite urgent. 2 of my accounts have just been hacked,, and it seems my windows live account had a hack attempt on it. I am trying to reset my passwords, but i beleive there is either a keylogger on the pc or smth wrong with windows firewall. Can anyone recomend a security software that would help now? without having to do a complete reinstall?

Download, install, update and run the free versions of these two tools and let them clean everything they find. reboot if asked.

Be sure to read all the sticky announcements/instructions at the top of each malware forum!

Once things are sorted out, make sure you have adequate firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware protection installed and make sure that Windows is kept up to date totally at all times with both critical and non-critical updates.

Same goes for add-ons like Java, Flash etc. etc.

Might help to know which version of Windows 7 you're running too.

Being unsupported, the Release Candidate might have more unpatched vulnerabilities than usual.

And if you're running something else, there have been some dodgy sources of Windows 7 out there. You could have something incorporated into your OS install, etc., where it could be a lot harder than usual to get rid of it.

well, it is someone i know that's for sure...my girlfriend had a chat with the person. That person was using my yahoo im adress. That persone definetly knew me...might be the fact that i had no security software installed...

Back in the RC days I used Avast Free A/V, all you have to do is register yearly and it remains free. I used Windows Firewall as the FW.

Yeah might just be. If someone knew you and knew you had nothing to protect against an attack it would make you a very very easy target.

But hey hacking is a crime so contacting different places you had accounts stolen from and explaining what happened could lead you to the person and get them arrested for stealing your accounts.

If you contact the places you had accounts stolen from have them obtain a list of recent IP addresses that accessed your accounts. Take those lists to the local police and have them find out who the IP address belongs to and have them arrested. They will know what IP based on the pattern and will be able to find who owns it and you will get some justice.

Not having protection is not a crime but someone taking advantage of that fact and using it to steal your accounts is.

Which serious hacker hacks a home user with no security software. The way I look at it is, the more security you have, the bigger you make your dot on the map.

A hacker is going to see your machine with no security and think that clearly , you don't have any valuable information on your machine and move alone. But when you strap your machine down with paid Security Centers, then you make your self a target to the hacker. Why? Because you have valuable information...

I don't think the person who did this was a hacker. It was someone i know, and most likely used my trust to send a keylogger. I managed to recover my yahoo account but the gmail account was locked due to "suspicious activity". I did a full reinstall since i didn't had much to lose(except time), and i installed kaspersky internet security 2009. From the comparisons and reviews i've read, it seems it is a good choice. Its also going easy on resources. Thanks for all the help you offered.

Might also want to put sstrong passwords on the computer to keep bad guys off it

Yeah don't use security I mean files you download don't contain viruses and malware right. There aren't a million different automated ways to become infected with malicious code or anything. Yeah who needs any security against any of that right I mean the only thing we really need to worry about are hackers after all and they are only looking for computers that take time and effort to break into so they can brag about their skill at hacking!

Not using any security on a windows system is retarded.

They call it anti-virus and anti-spyware not anti-hacker....

Thats not just poor security practice, thats NO security practice and NO brains either...
