I have a problem with which monitor shows an activated program.

For some reason, I have had a very small number of programs that when activated, it displays on my TV screen (2nd. option) without selecting this to happen.

When this happens, I minimize the program and drag it to the computer monitor and that seems to take care of it. But I don't know why this is even happening.

Tthe program for activating PPS with Microsoft Office PowerPoint is one that I can not correct by dragging it to the computer monitor. The reason being, that there is no way the PPS program can be "minimized" so that I can drag it.

Can someone help please?

When the program is open on the 2nd monitor, drag it to the 1st monitor and then close the program. When you open the program again, it should now open on the first monitor.

Thanks for the reply:

I guess you didn't understand my last sentence. I would like to do this but you can't drag a program unless it is minimized.

Here is what I had said in my posting:
"The program for activating PPS with Microsoft Office PowerPoint is one that I can not correct by dragging it to the computer monitor. The reason being, that there is no way the PPS program can be "minimized" so that I can drag it".

Open up a new instance of PowerPoint on the 1st monitor, then open the .PPS with that. Close PowePoint, and when you open the .PPS again, it should also open on th 1st monitor.

Hi Golden:

Well, thanks so much for all your time and effort to help me. Nothing I have tried to do or change, including all your suggestions, made any difference at all. Opening the program itself always open on the computer monitor but playing any show always opens on the TV monitor and as I mentioned, there is no "minimize" option when the show is running.

Anyway Golden, I ended up re-installing the entire Microsoft Office program and it works fine now and as it did earlier. I can only assume that some file(s) must have got corrupted and reinstalling it made the corrections. It was extremely frustrating.

Again, thanks for all your time, help and suggestions.

Regards,

Hi there
Normally hit the Windows +P button -- the choices are then Display on PC monitor only, Display on Both monitors (simultaneous display), Extend display (that makes both monitors equivalent to a single large "Virtual" monitor) or Display on 2nd screen only.

You need to ensure the resolution is set for the function you want to do.

If you have BOTH monitors active ensure you know which is the PRIMARY display (you can set this in the control panel). The PRIMARY display will have the buttons / windows/ menus etc while you can drag the application you want to display to the secondary (presumably the external) monitor --this should then just show the 2nd application by itself.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi Jimbo:

Thanks for all the information.

All my monitor settings are correct and I'm quite sure this was strictly a program malfunction as it only happened when trying to view a PPS. Reinstalling the program corrected the issue.

The shortcut you gave me (Win + P )was something I was not aware of and there are probably many other such options or shortcuts. Could you tell me, is there a URL that lists the shortcuts for Win 7, 64 bit?

Thanks again.
