When asked why she had such a long password, she said
she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters
long and include at least one capital.

The #1 most commonly used password is “123456”, and the 4th most common is “Password.” So any password attacker and cracker would try those two passwords immediately. Yet the Search Space Calculator above shows the time to search for those two passwords online (assuming a very fast online rate of 1,000 guesses per second) as 18.52 minutes and 17.33 centuries respectively! If “123456” is the first password that's guessed, that wouldn't take 18.52 minutes. And no password cracker would wait 17.33 centuries before checking to see whether “Password” is the magic phrase.

actually, password cracking depends from the hashing mechanics of the password. If you have the file where it is stored, then you're going to crack anything with the right hash tables (although there are better algorithms that force every hacker to use pretty damn big ones, they aren't used). If you are trying to crack stuff in remote, say a server's admin password, then it's realtively easy to set the server to: a) not give you access to the hash files where the password is contained. b) keep "login requests" capped at say once per second per user. And screw any such attempt.

I read a recent article by Steve Gibson that highlighted that the passwords most immune to brute force cracking are those with the longest length. Of course they become difficult to memorize, so he suggested using "padding " to lengthen easy pass phrases , for example :

password can be padded like this ...{{{...password...}}}...

So now a simple 8 character password becomes longer but an easily remembered 26 character one.

Its call padding. Take a word like password and add a character . between each letter. Easy to remember.

good crackers can crack difficult passwords because they don't just use brute force generating password
they use human logic. for example they generate passwords in patterns like first letter is capital and usually numbers at the end.. then dictionary attack that tries common replacements like $>s 0>o 1>I 5>s and so on, padding etc.
human logic is predictable and good cracker/cryptographer knows most of password making patterns, so they don't use just brute force to generate random passwords (like aaaa, aaab, aaac..) that would take ages for anything longer.

crackers use large dictionaries (not only English but other languages too) then tries combinations replacements patterns etc. and that is quite faster than just generating brute force passwords.

so password creator uses human logic and cracker uses same logic because he is human too and with experience how people create passwords.
for example password "qeadzcwrsfxv13" is quite unpredictable until you look at qwerty keyboard.

good way is to use password manager with random password generator that generates long passwords with most types of symbols and don't follow human logic thus are unpredictable.

But site security is important too most cracks are possible because password hash table leaks and still use simple encryption like md5..

Lately I've just been using the password generator built into Wise Care 365 (a free PC cleanup program, similar to CCleaner). It can generate a 30 character password, which includes numbers, upper & lower case letters and special characters.

I keep simple passwords between 8-10 digits with 1 or 2 special characters.
I dont think the hacker would have all the free time in the world to hack my password only to find it was just a waste of time.

I use https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm to generate passwords for anything that I like to keep secure, for example my wireless connection for my mobile devices (not my desktop, which is Ethernet). I choose the 63 random printable ASCII characters and use the full random string provided. well its mostly kanji yes but there is exception. の(no) I would think is hiragana so it may be Japanese

I cant quite understand other part my Japanese knowledge is only around JLPT N4 (kanji) or N3 (grammar) or it may be just random kanji
