So for the next little while, I'll be running a 6870 and a 6770 in crossfire, and I'm kinda curious how the two will stack up against the flagship 6990. I will also have the chance to run two 6870's in crossfire as well, and see what power they produce. Any ideas how these combos will stack up and perform? Should I notice a difference from a single 6870?

Not according to this you won't,

Not only that but the 6870 is a newer GPU, where the 6770 is still the older 5770 just with a couple of new features added to it.

I'm going to save that picture, as it'll probably come in handy down the road. I'm well aware of what the 6770 is, however, I didn't know it wouldn't play nice with my 6870. I still have to toss it in to bench mark it though, so either way, I get to downgrade for a bit. Thanks for that, +1 for the useful info :)

That's a system power supply spec.

The card itself dissipates less than 375W. (It requires two 8 pin PCI-E power connectors, 150W each.) That's a lot.

Twin 6990's would draw 750w... but why would you ever need that much power?

Ah. Update. 6870 and 6770 play nice in crossfire. Had them both up and running, no real difference in benchmarking though. Girlfriend is happy with it though :)

How did the config run after the update?

How did your 6870+6770 crossfire perform? Was your 6770 the model with 1GB DDR3? And 6870 w 1 GB DDR5 I assume?

You are the only literature on this so please let me know. Before the trolls come of course we know it is not an ideal config and that the lower bit rate of the 6770 may hinder performance. Is it possible to run the 6870 as the GPU and slave the 6770 to run strictly physics rendering? I need more general stability and would be thrilled with 10 more FPS. I know many cards can provide this with no problem but I am trying to work with these two until I find exactly what I want.

If the different memory types ddr3 v ddr5 hinder the config impossible, I would love a technical answer as to why if anyone could explain.

Please let me know what you know! I will greatly appreciate it.

how are those cards even compatible ?

I ran 2x 6870 Xfire and the 6770 is a newer version of the HD5770 ? I assume the 6870 is being Bottlenecked by the 6770 those cards were never ment to match up

Also comparing this set up to a 6990 is Insane that Gpu will burn the house down even with your two GPU's

Crossfire is MEANT for identical video cards, so is SLI.

Clown around outside that and you take your chances and likely not doing you much good at all.

I have zero personal experience on it, I get one card and all I ever need.
