Will this old computer playback 1080p?

Hi, I have an old computer with a Pentium 4 550 Prescott CPU with a Radeon X300. I was wondering if it would be able to decode 1080p? It wouldn't be at very high bitrates, I'm not sure what bitrates I usually play at, but the files are usually mkv and 3Gb and under. Most of the files would have DTS/AC3 5.1 surround sound, and I would want surround sound as well.

Are you playing a blue-ray disc through a blue-ray player ?

Do you have an optical or coaxial didgital output coming off the motherboard ?

It`ll probably lag with that cpu and card combo, only 1 way to find out.

Why would you even want to try, use your main rig.

MKV files. No optical or coaxial.

Ew. I don't want to sit in the basement all day.

Then you can`t get 5.1 as it will only come through an optical, coaxial, or hdmi connection.

If you`re talking about a downloaded movie, then you would more then likely get the same sound out of all 5 speakers that you would get with 2 speakers.

It would be different if you were using a BR player and using a BR disc in your pc.

Why is your good rig in the basement ?

I'm not sure what coaxial and digital means, my surround sound system uses 3 3.5mm jacks, so I just plug it in and get surround sound.

I can tell subtle differences in the location of the sound in my movies, not very significant, but enough for me to notice.

The TV is going to be setup in the basement, and I wanted to hook up the crappy computer to it. You then asked me why I didn't consider hooking up the good rig to the TV, to which I replied that I didn't want to sit in the basement all day, because it is upstairs.
