BSOD and WSOD on Windows 7, P5Q Deluxe, GeForce 260 GTX

Hi everyone

I'm writing this post to share the result of my 4 day fighting with my new PC and Windows 7.

I've just bought my new PC with the following configuration:
Motherboard: P5Q Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
Graphic: GeForce 260GTX
HDD: Patriot Warp 2.5" SATA2 128GB SSD
PSU: Cooler Master 900W
OS: Windows 7 ver. 6.1.7600 Build 7600


Then I decided to install Windows 7 64-bit and then all my problems started.

Here are the problems I had:
Randomly my PC hanged and I saw just white screen without any letters or BSOD with nvlddmkm.sys error (for 1 seconds, then automatic reboot).

So I did not know wether WSOD and BSOD are caused by the same problem.



nvlddmkm.sys fix


I had to use my camera to make a snapshot of BSOD to actually see the error and all details during BSOD. The problem was that I could not reproduced BSOD in any way.
Fortunately, I was able to record it on video and see that problem is related to nvlddmkm.sys file.
I've searched for forums and here is the solution that worked for me:
- I uninstalled video drivers installed by Windows Update by doing the following:
- Start in safe mode (press F8 on boot)
- Start->cmd
- sc delete nvsvc
- sc delete nvlddmkm
By doing this you deleting the service with drivers.
- I installed the latest version of nVidia drivers from official website Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

After that I didn't have a single BSOD.


But I have another major problem.

Randomly my computer started to hag for 3-5 seconds and then I saw just white or grey screen. If I had music playing on the background, it continues to play normally without looping. The keyboard stopped responding. I had to reset PC.
After restart system EventViever (eventvwr.msc) didn't show anything strange, except unexpected boot.
I was totally lost as I didn't know the cause of the problem.

Needless to say, that Battlefield 2 and Far Cry 2 running without a single problem on highest settings which made me even more confused.



WSOD fix


After reading and trying a lot of things, here is what was the solution:
The BIOS had an "Auto" setting for RAM voltage, and as I have 4 sticks of RAM, the manufacturer states that it is good to specify the voltage directly.

I specified 2.2 Volts - the maximum voltage for these RAM. Also, the manufacturer recommended to put the timings, but I didn't do that trying to get as much stable system as possible.

After fixing the above I had to try a stress test. The best one that I could get is OCCT located at OCCT Website english


I hope I will be able to help someone with problems like mine.

Did not solve my problem. But i solved it myself

(sorry for my bad eng)

I had the same problem for over 1 month with my gtx260.
Tested new drv and tdr fix all that you can do.

The card was tested at dealer and no problem. Replaced mobo, bought new memory new hdd .. still same problem. Bought e new nexus 600w powersupply.

Nothing did help.

This was the solution.

I downloaded nvflash. Made a bootable usb stick. Made a copy of my gtx260 bios with nvflash.

Modified the bios using NiBitor. Changed the value voltage (extra) from 1.12v to 1.06v

After that working fine.. Get the same points in 3dmark 06 and vantage. But my system is stable.. And i never get nvlddmkm bsod anymore
