Wait, what do you mean? How do I do this? Remember that I'm doing this from Command Prompt, I can't open any programs when I'm logged in. (I tried this in Command Prompt and it said the system couldn't find that path)

If you can boot to Windows normally, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

Right-click Command Prompt, and select: Run as administrator

At the Command Prompt, copy/paste (with the mouse) the following text inside the code box below, and press: Enter

find "[SR]" C:\TEMP\CBS.log > C:\TEMP\sfcdetails.txt

Go to Start, and in the Search programs and files (above Start), type or copy/paste: sfcdetails.txt

sfcdetails.txt is listed in the area above Search programs and files.

Actually, it is recommended that you run the sfc... three (3) times, in the attempt to fix the files it was not able to.

:info: Boot to Safe Mode.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
Right-click the Command Prompt, and select: Run as Administrator

At the Command Prompt, copy/paste (with the mouse) the following text inside the code box below, and press: Enter

It won't help, I'm afraid :) If we look at the SFC log, you'll see this line in the summary at the bottom:

Note the source file in store is also corrupt. So there isn't a copy to replace the corrupt one with on the system, we'll have to get one from elsewhere :)

SFCFix Script


Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a files should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

The issue reported by the System File Checker (SFC) program can be resolved if you follow the instructions provided by Tom982.

Shouldn't the following in SystemLook...
:filefind
autochk.exe

...produce the same results as the following in SFCFixScript.txt:
FileScan::
autochk.exe


In either case, we would need to arrive at a location where the file autochk.exe needs to be replaced, since the System32 copy of the file is corrupt, and so is the winsxs copy. The winsxs is the tricky one.

As it was pointed out later on, the source file is also corrupt :(

5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.

Unfortunately, my PC won't let me run .exe files, so this didn't work :(

If I were to re-install Windows 7, do you guys think this issue would be solved? I heard re-installing Windows always works, but I'm not sure... :/
