But deliberately setting human beings alight after a severe beating with wooden rods, fists, and kicking is in my mind totally obscene and so inappropriate for those of tender years to be watching just for something to do.

If they find it hurting, they will refrain from watching and learn for the next time to be more careful on what they click on (and that stuff posted by user X might be inappropriate).
Which is part of a necessary learning process if they want to know how to use the medium in the future.

Videos don't leave long-lasting emotional trauma like actually witnessing the event live, possibly on someone you care of.
Also, sharing atrocities like that may be beneficial in a very specific context, like to point out where racism can get you to. Emotional anchors lead to longer-lasting memories.

Anyway, this instead is very likely either a case of missing the point of the video (the kid didn't understand what the video was about and though it was just one of the generic "people does dumb things and end up hurting themselves" videos that are funny for sadistic people), or a case of the kid being a a-hole.

I think if you could see that video I feel you would take a very different tack on this unspeakable act and gutless site.

No offense but that video does not have the same deep impact it had on you on everyone, if at all. I've seen some pretty spooky stuff out of 4chan, so I'm probably shrugging at it as well. (note that I'm talking of emotional impact only, I'm not condoning burning people for some racist nonsense reason)

Facebook (and Internet at large) is basically a huge semi-unmoderated environment full of dumb kids and not-fully-grown adults (not saying that everyone using FB is, just that there is a significant amount of such users). It is like the streets of a big city. Stuff like this is normal. Knowing that it could happen is essential to not have your eyes hurt.

Ok I see I am outnumbered here I just cannot get the sight of that man with his skin on fire and seee hs breathing slow and stop out of my mind thats all.

I am not on any crusade or such but it just brings back memories of the gutless way that the UN and the rest of the so called free world stood around in Bosnia and watched as people were slaughtered and while Hussain chemically killed thousands without drawing breath.

Yes we can see and know what goes on but it is the apathetic way that a lot of people just accept it and carry on as if nothing has happened.

Like my ex used to say and it is on par with this - "No one cares about health until they get sick themselves" - so true because I cop those who don't look after themselves and expect miracles when they do get sick, and we wonder why the planet is in the state it is in:sarc:

the point of sharing it is to help make people aware it takes place, the more people that know the less it is tolerated..

its not about people getting titilation , im sure some people may share them for jollies but the point of them is to shock the world into taking some form of action.
knowledge is power as they say.
im glad it makes you angry (the content of the video), its doing its job if it does.

Yes well that just about says it all then Bob why care about anyone?? My job as a registered nurse has taken me places where no one should go and yet it still sickens me what inhumanity man can inflict on another.

Moreover I cannot find any excuse for ignoring it either. That in my mind smacks of total apathy and reeks of (a) spineless and totally uncaring person/s. I just wonder what some would say if they saw one of their own in some unspeakbale position - just turn away and have another cigarette until it's over with??

I already said I'm not condoning the actions, which means that I do what I can (donating Unicef every Christmas in my case, does work with kids but it's still humaitarian action).

But watching videos does not help the victims, just echoes their sufferings over and over on me and other people.
Unless used for a purpose (attracting attention and funds on the issue) it's simply masochistic to watch them at worst or a waste of time at best.

I didn't imply for one moment that you were condoning it Bob and I am just so fed up with those who stand by watch and do nothing as Einstein once remarked they are every bit as evil as those who commit these things.

Myself I do not donate anything to any charity simply because I am never sure how much actually reaches those it is intended for or else I would - another very sore subject for me.

In the end I suppose we have to accept we are the ultimate perverse species on this planet what other does these tings to their own??

Afaik, any other species does have similar in-fighting over "racist" reasons. Any animal group with hierarchy has its outcasts and two different groups/families/tribes of animals can and does fight over different fur coloration or perceived weaknesses of a specific individual/group.
Dog packs are a good example, horses are another, or ants and bees for insects.

And there is plenty of animals that attack on sight any other member of the same species unless it is of opposite gender and it's the mating season. Snakes and reptiles, insects, whatever.

I see it the reverse. Only humans are the race that is smart enough to be actively trying, by leaps and bounds, to let go this ancestral stuff.

Humans definitely take that crown. Although as mentioned, some species exhibit cruelty to their own.

It's true that a video doesn't necessariarily have the same impact as seeing it firsthand. Although an impact is made nevertheless.

I too have seen plenty of this sort of thing. Yet most of it I have seen as a post adolescent. I despair that kids see things before their time. I'm not immune to it, but I am less shocked these days. Some people are indeed growing up numb to this type of imagery.

Although what's truly worse is that cruelty is nothing new and is never going to change.

Neither men. Anyone that does something like that for "fun" without having strongly racist beliefs as most animals do show as well, the subject would just be a psycopath (like the ones shooting up people in the US), and mad animals are not impossible as well.
We just have more destructive tools at our disposal, while a mad animal heh, it's always more or less on par with its peers so the damage dealt is going to be on a far smaller scale.

We just have to do the best we can with our privacy settings on our computer, don't go to the garbage movies and don't watch the garbage stuff on TV.
