BSOD Playing Rome II, BF3 (Most games!)

Hi guys, first of all this is my first ever experiences with the BSOD. I bought my new rig through PC Specialist.

CPU : Overclocked Intel® Core™i5-4670k Quad Core (3.40GHz @ max 4.20GHz)
Motherboard : ASUS® MAXIMUS VI HERO: PCI-e 3.0, SATA 3.0, USB3.0
Memory (RAM) : 8GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)
Graphics Card : 3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780

I have been talking with PC Specialist but they're so slow at getting back to me so I thought I could ask some advise from you guys here?

This is what they told me to do;

The logs show 2 drivers that need to be updated as they are not being loaded correctly.

MAXIMUS VI HERO - Motherboards - ASUS then select utilities and download the ACPI driver and update that.

I installed the Network driver very easy, but when trying to install the ACPI driver it seems that I can't actually run the set up, it seems just to stay on some black screen that looks like the 'cmd' screen I will post a screenshot...

Any more advise would be great since they're not doing much!!

This situation is somehow common with ASUS Xonar. It causes this particular BSOD that we have noticed many a times. The fact is, the device is marketed by ASUS and the driver is developed by C-Media.

The drivers available with ASUS are rather old. If you can, you may tahe a look at USB Audio,PCIe audio,USB audio ic,USB sound chip--C-Media Electronics, Inc., but for that you need to know the chip type.

As a test at least, use the onboard grapgics and see if it is BSODing in the same way or not.

Let us know the results.

Hi Arc, thanks for your advise.

Its interesting to know that Xonar causes this type of BSOD, I'll get in touch with PC Specialist and ask for the chip type.

I find it funny how PC Spec thought otherwise for the blue screen. Do you know how I would go by updating my ACPI driver?

You mean ACPI.sys?

No way. Advanced Configuration and Power Interface depends on your device configuration and power management policy. It is auto configured depending on those settings.

Why you think that you need to update it? Any specific reason behind it?

Because I can't actually update the ACPI Driver that they told me to update. I was thinking that if I somehow updated that particular driver that it would resolve the problem. But now after talking to you, its actually a whole different problem that they didn't say or even bring up.

Harry, I am not aware of any downloadable ACPI driver.

There are some programs which manipulate ACPI, but those are must to avoid things. And, ACPI deals with sleep/hibernate. For a desktop PC, no sleep/hibernate function is needed at all. Those are for portable computers running on battery charge; mainly.

A stop 0x124 is usually a hardware caused BSOD. Xonar is a known culprit; and as per the crash dump, it is Xonar.

But the fact is, a stop 0x124 is hard and laborious to troubleshoot. So, if you can omit the audio card, on a test basis at least, and observe how it is going, it will be good for the troubleshooting process.

Saying it as we may notice that any other hardware components are also contributing to this BSOD.

One question, is the easiest way to omit Xonar just by disabling it in Device Manager? Or shall I completely uninstall it?

Disable it. It there is any further BSOD pointing it as failing, then we will go for removing that sound card.
