Website servers can't be found issues

Hey all,

I was having this issue for awhile:

But the disabling of the Bonjour service seems to have taken care of that. Now I am having new and wonderful problems loading websites with FF. It'll be fine for awhile then it will tell me the server can't be found. I can click the try again button 3 or 4 times or restart FF (any browser) and it eventually load the site.

I'm using the 7100 Build, everything was ok up until yesterday. I installed Office 2007, Suitcase 9.0, Kaspersky 8 trail and Nero 9.0.9.4b. I've since uninstalled Nero and Suitcase to see if maybe that was what is causing it. No luck so far. Disabling Kaspersky seems to be of no help. I haven't tried chucking Office yet

Chrome gave me this error code: Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found.

All other computers in the house seem to have no problems.

Hi gr81matt! Welcome to Windows Seven Forums. Glad to hear from you.

We hear many complaints similar to yours, many times it is the nic card and driver. Please, what nic are you using, is ti on-board the motherboard or a pci card? Also what driver are you using? The default Windows driver or another?

Post back with this info if you still need a solution and we can start there.

I had the same problem. After some researching, I disabled IPv6 in Firefox and have had no problems since. I am using FF 3.5.2

I noticed in checking out my network connections that I have NO IPv6 connectivity.

Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can

IPv6

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) can cause connection problems on some Internet connections. It is most likely a problem with your router, firewall, or ISP(Internet Service Provider), but it if affects Firefox because Firefox uses IPv6 by default. You can disable IPv6 to see if this solves your connection issues:

1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press EnterReturn.
   • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click
     I'll be careful, I promise!​
     , to continue to the about:config page.
     
     
     
2. In the displayed list, type network.dns.disableIPv6 in the Filter textbox.
3. Find the entry for network.dns.disableIPv6.
4. If the value is false, double-click on it, to change the value to true.
   • If the value is already true, IPv6 is already disabled, so it isn't causing your problem.
5. Close Firefox, start it again, and try to reach a website.

If disabling IPv6 solves the problem, report the issue to your router/firewall manufacturer or ISP. If disabling IPv6 does not solve the problem, re-enable IPv6 by setting the preference back to false, otherwise you will not be able to connect to IPv6 websites.

Just glad to help. I searched in the Vista side and the internet for several weeks with no luck as I had the same issue with Vista 64. I did a new install with Windows 7 and had the same issue. I finally stumbled upon this and it took care of my issues. Hopefully this fixes Matt's problem.

I have noticed a few things, if I am downloading a large file it won't effect that, or really any established connection. It seems like something DNS related. I though it was something to do with conflicting software since that problem didn't show up until maybe a week after I started using Win7 and right around time time I installed a bunch of stuff. I may just reinstall, I need to upgrade to the 64bit version anyway.

I have an onboard NIC, it's the Intel PRO/1000 PL, according to the update it's using the best available drivers. I amalso using the AT&T Uverse service/modem/router.

I would suggest you get the drivers from the motherboard site, and while you are there grab the 64 bit compatible ones as well (they may all be in one package). Some (including me) have had better success with OEM drivers than the default windows drivers for on-board ethernet. Originally, I dual booted 32 bit and 64 bit, but it didn't take long to go strictly 64!

I tried the OEM drivers from Intel and it still didn't help. I did uninstall Kaspersky anti-virus and haven't had any problems since. I was hoping that wasn't going to be the problem, since I like the software. Internet does seem to run a lot faster now too.

Any recommendations on a good anti-virus program?

There are many, and everyone will have their favorite.

Personally, I use the free.avg.com and have for many years. I am sure you will get many suggestions.

there are tons. AVG, Norton (?), ESEt smart security, microsoft security essentials. just do a search here there have been many, many threads. My choice is ESET

Flush your DNS cache, you may have a bad DNS entry.

jacee is of course correct. in search type cmd and in the windows type ipconfig /dnsflush then ipconfig /renew.

I am having the same issues.

I have tried the following:

- Disable IPv6 in FF
- Disable IPv6 on the network interface
- Switch to "work network"
- flush dns cache and reset interface

Note that these DO work
- Internet Explorer
- FF on Win7 x32

So, I have been relegated to using a Linux box as a proxy server...
