The "High Definition Audio Device" is almost always a generic, basic function, Windows installed sound driver. That can conflict with the regular sound driver in a PC and cause problems.

As you have the Intel HD Graphics, if you have an HDMI port on the PC you should also have the Intel HD Audio driver (for HDMI only).

I would uninstall the HD Audio Codec driver and if you have HDMI audio, the Intel HD Audio should be installed.

YouTube videos use Adobe Flash and that has been known to cause audio and/or video problems. Installing the latest version usually fixes that.

I would uninstall the HD Audio Codec driver and if you have HDMI audio, the Intel HD Audio should be installed.

both drivers are installed and they have been ever since i bought the laptop. The only problem i think that might have caused this is when my motherboard had a problem and/or when the HDD failed and had to get a new one and had to re-install all the drivers. I just need to know how to stop the IDT audio to stop crashing so i could open the GUI. if it is a problem with the re-installment of it then i don't know how to fix it because all i had to do was press 'next' on the installation, there really wasn't anything i could change besides the install location and i didn't change that

First thing, go to the Device Manager and RIGHT click on the entry for the IDT and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. If there were any corruption between Windows and the sound this will fix it.

If the uninstall does not fix it, reinstall the HP driver. Go to the HP downloads for your specific model PC and download the IDT driver and install that.

However, I'm still leery of the HD Audio Codec entry. It may have been there from the start but it still may be an incorrect driver or causing conflicts with the IDT.

The IDT Audio is what enables the Beats feature on my laptop and i was the one who installed it from the HP website.

EDIT: also as a test, i disabled each one of the sound drivers individually and they both need to be enabled for the sounds to come out.

The Beats Audio is a software enhancement to the IDT audio. I have something similar. I have Creative SoundBlaster Xfi MB2 software enhancement.

You have a odd-ball setup if both have to be enabled. That is not how most others (all that I've worked on) operate.

Did it work OK before you installed the Beats Audio? Maybe that software is what is causing the problem.

You may have to go back to the basic audio and start from there. One step at a time. If it works with the basic IDT audio, then add (reinstall) the Beats Audio and see what happens. When you have several things happening its hard to troubleshoot.

Everything seems to be working now. The solution i found was to install the optional updates that needed to be updated since 2 or 3 of them pertained to the drivers. Thank you for the help though

False alarm the sounds still does not play i updated my adobe flash player, but i don't think that is the problem i think its the sound card or the drivers are the main source.

Go back, as I have suggested and start out with basic system, without Beats Audio, etc and see if it works. If it does, then reinstall Beats Audio and see what happens.

But, you have to start out with a basic system on a problem like this.

There is no "HD Audio Codec" listed in the downloads at HP for your specific model. Only the IDT.

The HD Audio Codec, from your posts, is most likely interfering with the IDT and the reason it doesn't work or work correctly.

Could you provide each of the following reports? they'll provide a lot more detail and hopefully better understand your problem

1. List any Problem devices
  • Make sure devices are connected and powered on
  • Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
  • Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
  • If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
  • On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so

2. Generate and attach a DirectX report
  • Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag and click OK
===> If you’re running 32 bit Windows, dxdiag will launch on its own
===> If you’re running 64 bit Windows, you’ll see 64-bit DxDiag. Click it to launch the 64-bit version of dxdiag
  • Notice progress in lower left window corner
  • When done, click Save Information button and save as a text file to your Desktop
  • Click paper clip icon to attach the file to your next post

If you are installing the IDT driver, the HD Audio Codec should not appear. Windows appears to be installing that without you recognizing that its being installed.
Each entry in Device Manager represents a device. This indicates you have two different HD audio devices on your system. One uses the IDT "hardware specific" driver, the other is still using the Windows "generic" driver. Determine what the other device is to find out what driver it needs.

/* edit */
It's also worth noting that the "device name" that appears in DevMgr is defined in the Device's driver files. If no driver is found, the "device name" that appears is whatever name was burned into the device firmware by the vendor.
