IE11 for Windows 7 Globally Available

2 questions, 1. when will the 64 bit capability be activated in IE 11 for windows 7.

2. Will I lose any functionality by using it (like not having the Flash player in the older versions)?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I'm pretty sure that IE11 is just like IE10 in that (on a 64bit system) IE10 always starts in the 64bit mode.

It is as I thought:
IE11 (on a 64bit OS) will create 64bit children if EPM is turned ON.
IE11 (on a 64bit OS) will create 32bit children if EPM is turned ON, but a 32bit plug-in is needed.
IE11 (on a 64bit OS) will always create 32bit children if EPM is turned OFF.
The "children" do the surfing.

Flash works fine too.

This does not work in IE 11 with zoom set to anything but 100%.

I agree with Night Hawk. Maybe you have a video driver issue:

This occurs on three systems all with different graphics hardware (AMD and NVIDIA).

I have found, however, that what happens when the zoom is anything but 100% , is the blue arrow box becomes separated from the input area of the screen. If I move the mouse around the highlighted text, I can find the input area and the context menu appears.

I did notice that the blue box was missing from my screenshot, but I figured that it was due to the video driver used in VirtualBox VMs. I'll install IE11 for the 6th time and play with it some more

You are correct.It does seem to be a bug. Not that I ever use the blue square.

This is IE11 at 125%


I also tested IE10, IE9 and IE8 on that same page - with the same text selected. Those three versions worked as expected.

Corrupt Sidebar Gadgets (Win7 x64) right after installing IE10->IE11 (+ Italian language pack):



Rolling back to IE10 solves the issue with Gadgets. Whenever I reinstall IE11 they get corrupt again.
No Sfc /SCANNOW issues reported.

I also noticed in IE 11, that when I click on an attached thumbnail, like those above in this thread, I get the black screen with the rotating "spoke wheel" which then freezes. I must select the X to leave that screen and the next time I click on the attached thumbnail, the picture will appear.

You can no longer arrange the Favorites Bar, with a combination of internet shortcuts and local shortcuts, like you could in IE 9 and IE 10. It will put local shortcuts to the right of the internet shortcuts. They can not be intermixed.

I'm beginning to regret upgrading to IE 11.

You can uninstall it: Remove an update
The system will automatically roll back to previously installed version.

I was not able to reproduce that. All of the images on this page opened via IE11 using left click or right click > open in new tab.

I deleted the two items that MS puts on that bar - so maybe doing that messed up my testing. I was able to bookmark this thread and create a "local shortcut" to notepad. I could swap them around left to right. I'm not sure if that is what you had in mind for a local shortcut.

It was the left click on the image that is giving me issues.

Yes it was. Do they remain in place if you close then reopen the Favorites Bar?

One thing I discovered when IE10 first came out was it behaved differently on some combinations of OS, Programs, etc., making it difficult to reproduce many problems that many people with IE10 were plagued with at first. Considering how many possible OS program permutations there can be, I find it amazing that new versions of IE do as well as they do. Still, I will wait a few months before upgrading and let others be the guinea pig.

This is a screen shot of what I get when I left click on an image. It then remains frozen with no picture until I select the X and re-click on the image..

Well for me it performs better than Firefox now. Somewhere in between Firefox and chrome. Unfortunately to me Fiirefox seems to be heading downhill with bugs and their performance not keeping up with the cometition. Firefox has had the features, but others have caught up. Sigh.

I can confirm this bug too is related to DPI >100% settings. When I set DPI 100% also Sidebar Gadgets appear as usual without issues.
Confirmed also issues with IE accelerator blue arrow box when DPI >100%.

IMHO something is broken in DPI handling with IE11/Win7. No issues with IE10 and DPI 125%.

I would have to say it may have been a goober in programs clashing with each other or you need to get a fresh install. Every so often when going to install just about anything new you may run into a partial or bad install. Your's sounds more like something didn't go on fully as it was supposed to since the screen I grabbed there was ASAP at 125% I didn't see the other blue arrow appear at all however. Just no problem with anything so far.

I gave up an returned my primary system to IE 10.

The last straw was when I loaded a number of tabs simultaneously from Favorites and some were not loaded properly (blank tab and window). This was very repeatable.

One thing I noticed with the 64bit 11 install is finding one other thing different namely when looking in the Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools area you find another IE shortcut rather then seeing the 32bit and 64bit icons displayed above the All Programs. This other shortcut found in an unusual is for seeing IE open without any add-ons like a safe mode for IE. You might want to see how things go using that one to open a new window in order to see what happens then.
